"Good beer with a woody and moderately bitter profile. The beer pours a dusky red with a big, puffy light tan head. The aroma is sweet and moderately malty. There are a bunch of interesting hop smells in it, floral, herbal, citrus. The flavor is bitter and rather dryer than expected. The malt is a slightly sour nutty, caramel presence. It’s an interesting winter beer that I would definitely try again given the chance. "

"Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1pt .9oz bottle into a mug. There appears to be no freshness date.
Appearance: Its head builds up tall and foamy. It is firm and rocky, light tan color and slow fading. A small thin cap hangs on till the very last sip. On the way down the glass it leaves some nice rings of lace. The body has a deep, very dark reddish amber/old copper color with some visible carbonation.
Smell: The aroma has a modest presence of spicy/herbal hops with a hint of holiday spices and something citrusy.
Taste/Palate: The flavor has a solid hop presence with citrus and spicy/leafy notes. The hops are supported by a mildly sweet and dark bready maltiness. Within it are also notes of brown sugar and a touch of cinnamon. In the finish hop flavor picks up and adds dryness and bit of bitterness. The body has a medium to full feel with a slick smooth texture and active tingly carbonation.
Notes: Overall this was a pleasant Winter Warmer.

"I had a bottle of the 2008 Winter Ale. Label different than that depicted and in my opinion a different recipe than in previous years (from reading the reviews). Poured a reddish brown color with minimal head. A slight malty taste that is hidden by hops. Leaves a bit of an after taste. Overall not a bad beer, but not what I was expecting."

"Bottle at tasting at Chris Fischer’s (from Liars Club) house. Pours with an amber body topped by a thin to medium thick head with some lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a touch ofbread. Light to medium bodied, watery and smooth."

"Bottle from SL, pour was deep amber to red, some brown hues too, decent initial head, diminishing, though, leaving only light lacing. The aroma was roasted malts, caramel, almost a touch of coffee. The flavor was roasted malts, touch of coffee, toffee to slight brown sugar, faint chocolate, no significant spicing, dry hoppy finish. Not my cup of tea or beer."
