Old Chub is a Scottish strong ale brewed with hearty amounts of seven different malts, including crystal and chocolate malts, and a smidge of US and UK hops. Old Chub also gets a dash of beechwood-smoked grains imported from Bamburg, Germany, home of the world's greatest smoked beers. Old Chub is 8% alcohol by volume. While Dale's satisfies our hop addiction, Old Chub takes care of our deep affections for malt. The cola-colored beer (almost black) features a tan head, a creamy, skim-milk mouthfeel, and rich, semi-sweet flavors of caramel and chocolate throughout. The addition of smoked grains gives Old Chub a delicate kiss of smoke on the finish. Old Chub is the beer equivalent of a lightly smoked single malt scotch, or your favorite dark chocolate. We call it Rocky Mountain Mutha's Milk. People who tell us defiantly, "I don't drink dark beer," often fall deeply in love with Old Chub. We can't blame them.

"I finally found this and i have to say its pretty good but not up to the ratings given so far (in my humble opinion). It pours a nice deep brown almost black body that when held to light has a amber apperance. Thin head and not much lace. Not much aroma, but the flavor was sweet with lots of caramel and a little smoke. Overall its pretty good and worth a shot and since its in a can i guess i can take it tubing next summer. : ) "

"Pours a slightly hazy dark brown color with a very thin head that quickly settles down to almost nothing. The aroma consists of lots of chocolate and caramel with some molasses and figs in there as well. Roasted caramel malty flavor with chocolate and some dark fruits. Slightly peppery in the finish. This didn't drink nearly as thick as I was expecting and actually the mouthfeel was a little thin. Good but not great. "

"Average at best. It pours beautifully, but the taste is incredibly thick. The caramel is like trying to eat those little caramel squares and the chocolate is like eating a hershey bar."

"Pours a very nice reddish brown with a creamy white head. The aroma is of caramel malts and black licorice. Raisins, figs, and molasses dominate the taste which is finished off with caramel and chocolate malts. A very smooth and creamy mouthfeel adds to the drinkability as the 8 percent ABV is tough to notice. This is a nice beer, one I'd definitely try again."

"Not too sweet or cloying, not biting, and enough alcohol to give it body. Very drinkable anytime of the year. Perfect with pizza, chinese, thai, anything spicy or herby. One of my "new" favorites. "
