Top-fermented beer with a deep dark red colour. This beer ripens for 24 months in oak barrels. This gives Petrus Original (in Flanders called “Oud Bruin”) its vinous, noble taste and slightly sour in character. The mild alcohol content makes this beer the perfect thirst-quencher.

"SOW-ER. I've heard that this style is VERY popular in the low countries of Europe. The beer pours a dark brown with a thin tan coloured head. The aroma is pungent, there is some malt, and some distinct sourness. The flavour hits the sides of the tongues like an all out flank attack. Very sour."

"Ok when I first started to review this beer I thought it was a brown ale since that’s what it’s called on the label and I was thinking for a brown ale this udder crap, but then I realized it was a sour this means it got slightly better now that I realized it tasted the way it was suppose to but I still hate it because I hate this style. The gas that exploded out of my bottle when first opened had the yuck stink of barf WTF!!! Brew pours a very dark brown and has just a small film floating on top, looks like flat root beer. Thank gawd the stink from the bottle has left, brew has a very sweet and sour style aroma with hints of metallic and a sugary candy dominates. Flavor is very light once again very sweet and has sour/vinegar notes to it caramel starts to come out when warmer. For me the mouth feel is overly carbonated and to thin. This is a boring unappealing brew and I see no reason to ever drink it again. "

"I was at the Quarry House in Silver Spring, MD last night and decided to try this one. It's not very often you can be at a bar and see a reasonably priced Flemish Sour beer available. Having never tried this one I decided to give it a whirl. My initial impression was this is a fairly good Flemish Sour, but compared to some of the other more hearty ones, it falls a little short.
The waitress brought the beer out in a bottle, accompanied with a tulip glass with no stem on it. I poured the brew myself and was presented with a very nice, dark brown beer that looked very tasty and inviting. The head on the beer was small and white. It quickly dissolved to leave a small white ring around the edge of the glass. The aroma was a little on the weak side. I was expecting more tartness and vinegar like aromas to be flowing out of the glass. You could smell some tartness, but it wasn't anything comperable the other Flemish Sours I've had over the years.
The mouthfeel was extremely smooth and enjoyable. It was a hot day in the DC metro area and this one sure hit the spot. The carbonation in this one is there, but the bubbles are very small, leaving you with a smooth drink, moderately dry taste in your mouth. The flavor was that of tart cherries, with a hint of woodiness to it. I wouldn't say the flavor was awesome, but it wasn't bad either.
The bottom line, I think this is a good introductory beer to the Flemish Sour category, especially for those who haven't really developed a palate for this style yet. As we know, until you develop a taste for it, something like the Duchesse could be really unsettling for a rookie. None the less, it's a step above average for this style. Still a well crafted beer worthy of at least trying one time."

"Poured out a large fizzy light tan crown with a small amount of both retention and lacing, brown brew. The aroma is a bit of a let down but still good. On the weak side from what I expected: weak cherry, a bit musty, brown sugar and something vinegary. I'm disappointed so far. The flavour is sour and dry, quite tannic with some dark berry of some sort of another, a watery tannic, dusty, hell, there just isn't much here. Starts off sort of smooth and goes tannic in a hurry. Finishes about the same with a slight brown sugar end that gets stomped on by the sourness. If I need a Flemish Sour I won't reach for this. And if this is my only choice, I won't reach at all."

"Pours out in a clear nut brown colour with with a rich lasting off-white foam. Sweetish aroma of wild raspberries, black cherries, caramelized almonds with a woody vinegary undertone. Fruity flavour leaning on the sweeter side of black cherries and black-currant with mild but still lasting acidic undertones. Long fruity and mild acidic finish of wood, brown sugar, over-riped cherries, almonds and immature raspberries. Not a great beer and a bit sweet but I dig this Sour Ale style."
