Piraat is a 'living' beer, which means that after the primary fermentation in the keg, the beer also continues to evolve during the secondary fermentation in the bottle or in the keg after packaging. This is a world-class amber colored beer. American beer connoisseurs give it 98 out
of 100. No other beer scores better. The flavor is so complex and so rich that every swallow conjures up new associations. Note the spicy light sweetness, which is richly balanced with the robust bitterness of the hops. It is an adventure of a beer, a treat. A strong beer like the Piraat has been brewed for a thousand years to be taken out
to sea. The Vikings in particular were well acquainted with this type of potent beer. Piraat has a high nutritional value, keeps well for years and strengthens the body
and morale of pirates and other seafarers. It is a healthy energy booster.

"A golden medium bodied ale with a white head that produces some lacing. Initially tasted sweet almost like a tripel but was followed up a bitter yet floral, citrus-like flavor. I also tasted golden raisins and port on the palate. A good beer that packs a punch which is all the more reason to try it."

"When poured only a thin bubble island floats on top of a hazy brass body. Aroma is sharp and yeasty but not all that strong red wine is also coming through. Flavour is nice and sweet. Woody alcohol, grape, sour yeast and wheat malts are making their way through in the flavour. Beer seems sweeter than most other Belgians but it never gets sickening. Caramel has shown up when warm and the beer has a nice alcohol bite in the finish. This Belgian is average at best."

"It pours a golden body with plenty of carbonation, a big white head that left heavy lace. Aroma of alcohol was most prevelant with hints of sweet friuts. Flavor was similar with the alcohol dominating the intial and middle flavor with friut hints finally showing up in the aftertaste. An o.k brew but the alcohol was too overwhelming to rate it higher."

"Wanted to cellar this one longer but couldn't resist. Pours an orange/golden with a thick white head. Although I prefer the floral aroma of west coast hops, this wasn't bad--a bit more earthy without such a piney, fruity kick. Considering its strength, the taste was fairly smooth. Definitely some noticeable hops but not a strong alcohol burn like a lot of strong beers. Would definitely get this again if I run across it--and hopefully allow it to age more."

"One can never go wrong with a Belgian strong ale, and especially this one in particular. It pours a pale golden brown colour with a huge generous head that lasts a LONG time. The aroma is spicy, yeasty, and malty all at once. A great combination. The flavour is very strong and well defined in this beer, including the alcohol. It's 10.5%, and it shows it well."
