Brewery Description:
In 1998, for the very first time, 3 microbreweries joined forces under a single banner, RJ Brewers, thus marking a significant turn of events for the Quebec brewing industry.
Les brasseurs GMT, a pioneer in the Quebec microbrewing industry, was established in 1988 in the heart of Montreal. This is also the location of RJ Brewers's main production plant and where all of the new group's draft and bottled products are produced.
La Brasserie le Cheval Blanc, became a real institution under the guidance of Jérôme Catelli-Denys, the last heir of the Roncari-Catelli family. He paved the way for microbrewed beer when he renovated the old Cheval Blanc tavern in 1987 and turned it into a brewpub. In the landmark building at 809 Ontario Street, thousands of Montrealers and Quebecers were introduced to new aromas, new flavours, and new ways to drink beer - real beer. Bolstered by the success of its formula and with three products being sold at SAQ outlets, Cheval Blanc had to expand to increase its production capacity. In 1995, the company opened a brewery at 5020 St-Patrick Street. The brewpub is still at its original location on Ontario Street and continues to serve customers who are eager for new and different beer sensations.
In October 1998, Brasserie Le Cheval Blanc joined RJ Brewers, which already owned Brasseurs de l'Anse in the Saguenay and Brasseurs GMT in Montreal.
La microbrasserie des Brasseurs de l'Anse, founded in 1995 by the current owner of RJ Brewers, is located in the picturesque village of L'Anse-Saint-Jean in the Saguenay region. Its association with the RJ Brewers group gives the microbrewer access to an extremely efficient production and distribution network. It presently houses the group's second production facility, packaging some of its products.
The synergy between the three brewers has given the group a strong presence in the Quebec brewing industry and confirmed the leadership that has always characterized RJ Brewers
Spurred on by the popularity of its products and growing demand on local and international markets, RJ Brewers now operates in a 3,600 m2 production plant in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal district. Using state-of-the-art, high-performance equipment that includes a VK2V double pre-evacuation bottling machine, as well as a research laboratory, annual production capacity now stands at 35,000 hectolitres.
