They said it couldn’t be done, but we did it: Santa’s Butt, the beer, coming to a theater near you for the holidays. It’s a splendid, satisfying Winter Porter at 6% -- a souped-up version of the classic Entire Butt Porter that you’ve enjoyed in the past. Everyone wants a piece of Santa’s Butt. This special porter is made for winter -- rich and warming, the way they like it in the North Pole. It was inspired by this famous line from a well-loved children’s story book:
"And Santa sat on his great butt, drinking a hearty brew."
In case you find that amusing, we hasten to point out that in England ‘butt’ refers to a certain barrel used in brewing -- a very large barrel, in fact, holding 108 imperial gallons. Back in the day it was quite a normal thing for a brewery to put its beer up in a large butt for storage. Still snickering, eh? Get your mind out of the gutter or Santa will skip your house entirely this year.
The illustration for the Santa's Butt label was painted by Massachusetts artist Gary Lippincott. Go to his web site and buy something for chrissakes. The poor guy works for beer.

"This had a beautiful appearance.....dark in coloring with a thick head that lasted a long time. I thought the aroma was quite nice with a roasted caramel and molasses blend. The taste was smooth enough and very enjoyable."

"In a word smooth. Dark brown with a tan head. Nutty aroma that is most pleasing. It even smells smooth. There was a nice variety of flavors to experience. nutty, sweet coffee and malty. All were balanced, with nothing stealing the show. An excellent holiday treat. "

"How could I resist a beer with a name like this? I was delighted to see it available in Atlanta since it caused a major stink in the Northeast last year.
Color is a dark red or brownish red. Aroma is delightful - it seems as if each sniff yielded a different hint or tone. I got the burnt-coffee smell that I associate with good porters and stouts, as well as hints of spice and an undertone of molasses. Flavor is not strong but pleasant, smoky, sweet overtones and hints of coffee. Finish is smooth, leaves a bit of sweet on the lips and just a whisper of hop bitterness. Not superb, but definitely worth hunting."

"Bottled. Deep rubyish amber colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is mild burnt wood and some hops. Flavour is hops along with some roasted and caramelly hints. Pleasant, but not very special. "
