JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

"Sweet malty aroma, though aroma is very weak overall and is definitely the low point of this beer. The appearance on the otherhand is quite strong, very clear beer with a reddish orange color and thick white head. Mouthfeel is thick and somewhat cloying but the dry hoppy finish is enough to compensate for that. It's a big malty beer otherwise."

Sampled on 10/30/2009. 750 ml red bottle with beerguy101. pours an amber color, thick head. aroma is citrus and malty. sweet malty caramel, hoppiness. it's all amped up. good balance. a little alcohol burn, wouldnt mind trying this after a little aging to mellow it out. aftertaste is slightly bitter."

"Sampled on 10/30/2009. This American Strong Ale pours a medium orange gold color from a big red ceramic 750ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and malty. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal and floral. Nice carbonation. Good balance. Definitely a ramped up dead guy, which is not a bad thing. Seems to be a little boozy with a fairly noticeable alcohol bite for a 9% beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. "

"750ml bottle, dated 2009. Pours a hazy orange amber with a frothy smallish head that goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.
The aroma is sweet caramel malts, toasted toffee, and some fruits and a little alcohol.
The flavor is toasted biscuity malts, nuts and some fruitiness with a little alcohol and some decent bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low smooth carbonation.
Overall, an interesting beer. I like this a lot better than than the regular version but there's still some of the toasted biscuity malts that I don't much care for."

"This beer came across very different than I had expected and not in a positive way. It had a touch of the hoppieness but much more malty than I would have guess. Plus, the spiciness to it was much more than I prefer."
