Hazelnut Brown Nectar is a nutty twist to a traditional European Brown Ale. Dark brown in color with a hazelnut aroma, a rich nutty flavor and a smooth malty finish. Dedicated to the homebrewer in each of us--the homebrewer who inspired this creation is Chris Studach, a friend of Rogue's resident wizard John Maier, who added a Northwest twist to the classic style by adding hazelnuts for the host homebrew at the 1993 American Homebrewers Association convention. Chris put the nut in nut brown!
Hazelnut Brown Nectar Ale is a blend of Great Western 2-row Pale, Munich, Hugh Baird Brown, Crystal 80 and Crystal 135, Carastan, and Beeston Pale Chocolate malts; hazelnut extract; Perle and Saaz hops. HazelNut Brown Nectar is available in a 22-ounce bottle, a special commemorative 3-litre bottle with ceramic swing-top, and on draft.
Measurements: 14 degrees Plato, IBU 33, apparent attenuation 73.6, Lovibond 36.

"Pours dark with raspberry-esque tints. Decisive hazelnut aroma and mostly hazelnut taste; thicker in the mouth than expected, but not soupy at all. Was such a rich and well crafted taste, but still I found myself getting tired of it by the end of the glass. A fantasgreat single glass, but nothing I would drink a lot."

"Tasted more like a cream soda or a Dr. Pepper that it did a hazelnut beer. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Kinda think of it, this one did kind of remind me of Frangelico on the rocks, with the same sweetish quality, only not as strong in the kick department, and with carbonation. Hmmm. At any rate, Nectar was very mild with not a lot of hop character, which scored with me. However, I think the Rouge people should leave the hazelnut experimenting to the Italian monks that make Frangy. This is something I wouldn't turn down if it was the only beer available, but I would be excited about it.

"Presentation: It was poured from a brown 22oz bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: Its body has a deep dark reddish brown color with lighter reddish highlights. The head is big and foamy and has a nice light tan color. It also has very good retention and makes cool splotchy lace that is slick and slowly sides down the sides of the glass.
Smell: The aroma is malty sweet, buttery and has an assertive nutty character.
Taste/Mouth feel: It has a wonderful roasted and buttery smooth nutty character. It is mildly sweet and creamy with little to no hop influence. The finish is mildly sweet and creamy as well and it has a solid medium body. On the tongue it has a slick and silky smooth texture with soft carbonation.
Notes: This is a heavenly Brown Ale.

"bomber bottle.
Rerating;
Pours a dark clear shimmering chestnut brown ale in the mug with a puffy tan colored sticky cap which lasts and laces well.
Aroma as adverized : copious amounts of specialty malt and nuts with a wisp of sweetness and grassy hop notes.
Front side of this ale is a chew on big malts then a blast of roasted hazel nut and black malt roastiness is off set by a judicious amount of woody hopping...finishes lightly drying slightly bitter in a nutty-malty ambience.that lingers into the after taste.
This is a nut brown with nuts! "

"650ml bottle
6.2% ABV
I tried this beer on October 10, 2008 aftyer purchasing from one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a translucent very dark brown, with a creamy, tan coloured head. The aroma was dark malt, muts, and chocolate. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, with medium carbonation. The flavour was roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, some hazelnut, and some hops. Nicely complex"
