HISTORY In their second collaboration effort, Rogue Master Brewer, John Maier, and Master Distiller, John Couchot are releasing John John Juniper Pale Ale. This ale consists of Rogue Juniper Pale Ale aged in Rogue’s Juniper Gin barrels. Gin lovers will recognize the oddity in this approach – gin is not typically aged in barrels.
To craft this unique brew, John Couchot aged the Gin in oak barrels so the barrels can soak up the flavor of the gin. The barrels are then emptied and rolled by forklift from the Rogue Distillery to the Rogue Brewery. John Maier later fills these barrels with Juniper Pale Ale so that his creation can absorb the gin flavors from the barrel.

"John John Juniper Ale
Sampled on 3/16/2012. This American Pale Ale pours a slightly hazy orange gold color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head with decent retention and nice lacing. The aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet, hint of juniper and some hops. A medium bodied American Pale Ale. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are citrusy and grapefruity. The juniper adds some interesting fruitiness to beer. Decent carbonation. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. "

"It pours a crisp orange and golden with a thick and foamy white head and some copious lacing. An aroma of fresh malts, citrus, berries, and light spice. The mouthfeel is smooth and fairly rich. Flavors of caramel malts, bitterness, hops, citrus, bread and yeast, and light spices. Excellent!"

"what a surprise. when my budy said he had John John, i thought it was the barreled Dead Guy. little did i know there was also this gin barreled pale ale version (as well as a rum barreled hazelnut brown i'd love to try). i confirmed just yesterday i'm not a big fan of the juniper pale (the base for this) but i'm a big fan of both of rogue's gins, and this beer better reflects the gin than the beer. very unique, spicy, smooth, floral, and delicious, especially as it warms. 34 ibu, 5.2% abv."

"A hazy orangish colored beer. A small frothy textured off white head rises above. Settles fairly quickly into light film and heavier cap/ringlet. The aroma is a beautiful blending of piney hops, juniper berries and caramel malt.
Citric hops and gin-sweet malt hit the plate immediately in this light to medium bodied beer. A degree of smoothness and carbonation are evident. It paired well with the grilled tuna steaks.
