The Malt Advocate described Saint Rogue Red as "An ale with great character and plenty of hops to satisfy. Full aromatic punch of caramel, citrus fruit and melon, with underlying fresh earth tones. Sweet caramel notes up front are quickly taken over by an array of fruit and hops bitterness that lingers into the night. A more adventurous ale than most."
Reddish copper in color, a roasty malt flavor with a hoppy sprucy finish. Saint Rogue Red is made with two-row Harrington, Klages and Munich malts, along with Hugh Baird 30-37, 13-17 Carastan, and Crystal 70-80 malts (44.4% speciality grains .39 lbs grain per bottle); Chinook and Centennial hops. Saint Rogue Red is available in a 22-ounce bottle, 12-ounce 6-pack (new for 2005), and on draft. Saint Rogue Red Dry Hopped-a draft only variation with raw Centennial hops added to the keg, giving the beer an increased hop finish and intense hop aroma.
Measurements: 13 degrees Plato, IBU 44, Apparent Attenuation 73.1, Lovibond 26.75.

"pretty solid...considerably better than american amber from Rogue, great malt set-up and bitter finish...not as aromatic as i'd like, but worth a try. too expensive for a 3.7."

"Dry Hopped Label: I tried this one out a while ago when I saw a single hanging around on the shelves at Wine Corridor in Laurel, MD. I liked it a lot and picked up a six-pack on my next visit. This one has turned into a favorite of mine to drink while out smoking cigars in the woods. Only now am I getting around to reviewing it.
This one looks so damn good when it is being poured. We are talking about a hearty dark brown colored beer with a super thick slightly off white head. This head leaves some extreme lacing behind on the walls of the glass as you drink it down. The aroma is what you'd expect....the floral aspects of hops and plenty of it. The crazy part is that you can actually smell some malty caramel notes in there as well. Totally unexpected when you first pick up on those hoppy notes.
This one drinks very well, as do most of the Rogue brews. This St. Rogues is as smooth a beer as you'll find out there. The flavor is well balanced and somewhat complex. You really pick up on the flavors of malty caramel, citrus, hoppy floral, and even some graininess. I absolutely love it.
This is one of my favorites out there. From this point forward, this will be a staple in my fridge. It goes great with some Macanudo cigars too!"

"Bottle pour is dark red with a brown hue and a thick foamy white head that has good retention. Nice lacing, too. Aroma is extremely floral with bready malts. Taste is of sourdough bread, roasted malts, with a slight centennial floral hops bite to finish. Mouthfeel is creamy - this is a perfect session beer. Personally, I would like more hops, but this a remarkably nice and smooth beer."

"A reddish brown bodied ale. The head is a fairly is less than robust, but has some hang time, settling into a gentle lacing. A lot of toasted grain and caramel in the nose. The malt on the palate is spicy, and mixed with a domination of citrus in the after taste. The bubbles led a soft texture to the mouthfeel, making this an okay drink."

"Amber color with a thick off-white head, some retention, and pretty good lacing. Caramel malty and grainy flavor mixed with a nice dose of floral hopping make for a good tasting and well balanced beer. Finishes a little dry. Really solid. "
