This traditional lager is medium in body with a deep roasted character. Its dark color and rich malty flavor come from specially roasted caramel and chocolate malts. This brew is lightly hopped with Noble Bavarian hops for a soft spiciness and a smooth clean finish.

"Purchased in Nashville on my trip to Tennessee in a 6-pack sampler. Cola-looking with a big frothy beige head and lots of lacing. Smells yeasty and malty like their Coastal Wheat brew with notes of chocolate malt, nuts and mild dark fruits. Smooth and silky mouthfeel. The taste has some dark and caramel malts with a touch of nuts and a light bitter finish. A nice easy-drinking Schwarzbier."

"Had to buy a sixer of this, the store won't break six pack to make assort. Nice color, pored a thin 1/2" head that dissipated quickly. A little bready flavor comes thru, not much else. I won't go out of my way to buy this. I feel there is so much more variety out there, than spend time with this one. Drain poured it, just didn't hit the spot. I like Boston Brewing because it is close to me, but think they spend to much time with to many beers. Keep it simple- 3 or 4 and be excellent at it. "

"This beer really does pour basically black with a tan head that has some staying power. The smell of this beer is roasted sweet coffee smell. The taste is unlike anything I have tasted before in that it has the taste of a porter or a stout but it has a much lighter feel to it. It had a nice sweet (not overly sweet taste)"

"I found this in the brewmaster pack. I was blown away by the nice nutty carmelish flavor, not hoppy but almost creamy and velvety. I really enjoyed this very dark brew. I can find it very easily and have been making regular trips to the store to pick this up."

"Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: The body is dark black in color and very nearly opaque with some ruby red highlights along the sides of the glass. There is some visible carbonation near the sides of the glass as well. On top sits a thick tan head with very good retention. It makes some good lace rings on the glass as I drink.
Smell: The aroma is sweet and bready with some mild hints of smoke and burnt sugar.
Taste/Mouth Feel: There is sweet buttery toffee and light caramel notes up front. This gives way to a robust espresso character with a light dusting of bittersweet chocolate. It finishes with some mild hop bitterness and dryness. The palate is medium bodied with a smooth texture and mild yet active carbonation.
Notes: Another solid beer from Samuel Adams!
