Samuel Adams® Summer Ale is an American wheat ale. This summer seasonal uses malted wheat as well as lemon zest and grains of paradise, a rare pepper from Africa first used as a brewing spice in the 13th Century to create a crisp and spicy flavor and body. The ale fermentation imparts a background tropical fruit note reminiscent of mangos and peaches. All of these come together to create a quenching, clean finishing beer perfect for those warm Summer days.

"Yuck! This is the worst wheat beer I have ever had. It had a strong bitterness that was not hop-associated, more of a blah taste. The colour was slightly hazy, but not wheat beer hazy. The aroma was more hoppy than wheat. I don't know.....just a bad experience."

"Wheat smell with some slight hints of citrus, mostly lemon. Cloudy gold color with light white head. Thin bodied, this beer is refreshing and soft on the palate. Good lemon flavor with a slight citrus tinge in the middle and a little touch of sweetness. "

"I like the cloudy golden body with hints of orange tinge The big foamy white head was inviting enough. It settles into a nice lacing. The carbonation is good. The label teases with ‘a dash of lemon zest’. But where’s the lemon? I did get much in the nose. The palate seems a little simplistic with faint hints of malt. A good drink sure enough but weak in the taste and aroma"

"It pours a hazy pale golden color with a thin white head that leaves behind some lace on the glass. Its aroma is has hints of wheat, citrus fruit and some spicy notes. It has a smooth medium body with delicate wheat malts and a zesty kick from the grains of paradise and lemon. The hops are very low key here and only add some light bitterness to the finish which is crisp and refreshing.

"Don't know why I never reviewed this beer. I must say, it goes well with spicy food. Pours like a typical wheat beer...a hazy yellowish-orange color and a decent little white foamy head. Aroma is not strong, but is citrus and a bit off hoppiness there too. A lil bit thin, sweet and too lemony for my personal likings, but it is drinkable. Not too many Sam Adams that I wouldn't at least try again."
