Often called “mild” if it is on draft, brown ale is a walnut-colored specialty of the North of England. A festive-occasion beer, brown ale is one of the oldest English brewing styles, mentioned in literature in the 16th century. Beers brewed at the old brewery have a round, nutty flavor because of the Yorkshire square system of fermentation.
Walnut-like color and palate of hazelnuts. Wonderful balance of roasted crystal malt and aromatic hops. Long clean finish.
Stilton cheese, grouse and roasted game hen, barbecued duck, pepper steak; spicy food, paella, stir-fry, teriyaki, Thai food, Chinese food, creamy chicken and pineapple curry. Serve at 55 degrees.

"Big wonderful nose on this one. Raisins, chocolate, caramel, touch of citrus. Frothy off-white head of decent size sits atop a dark copper, light brown body that it clear. Laces well. Mouth is medium and chewy, nicely slippery, excellent carbonation. Crystal malts dominate in the taste mixed with some nice hoppy citrus, and there follows an additional malt flavor with some hints of prune and pepper and rosemary. Finish is slightly sweet and fairly clean."

"Beautiful dark amber pour with off white head. The mouthfeel was a bit thinner than I had expected but overall it was fine. One of the better beers I have had. "

"THis beer is deep red, almost brown in color with a fluffy khaki head that laces somewhat. The aroma is complex with oak, caramel, and malt. The taste was rich with malt and some hop, however not too complex. That being said it is still a good nut brown and makes me think that Samuel Smith Brewing Company knows what they are doing."

"Pours a nice deep reddish brown with a samll tan head. Leaves some lacing on the glass. Smells like roasted nuts and malt. Tastes deliciously nutty with some roasted hints and finishes bitter with some dark chocolate in there. Smooth medium mouthfeel."

"No matter what ther think. This ale is hands down one great beer. The caramel roast aroma and crunchyness of a mouthful of this ale is simply heaven. Produced by a world renowed brewery, there is many but as far as classic alomst vintage in a sense. Hard to find in Hawaii but very enjoyable for celebrations and special occasions. Very distinct and very smooth in my veiw."
