The Famous Taddy Porter
History
Porter was the first commercially brewed beer. It was named for the train porters who were its original servers and consumers. Samuel Smith’s Old Brewery, Yorkshire’s oldest, reintroduced authentic porter to the British beer scene in 1979 after an absence of more than 50 years.
Very dark, fairly full in body and packed with flavor. Intense, dry tangy character of roasted barley.
Oysters on the half shell, Rockefeller or Cajun style, clams, mussels, crab cocktail, lobster bisque and other shellfish, smoked mackerel pâté, veal with green peppercorns, porterhouse steak and of course chocolate. Serve at 55 degrees in nonik or tumbler.

"This is my current favorite beer so I'm trying not to go nuts over it in my review. This beer doesn't pour a very thick head. I love the smell of this beer it has a distinct aroma with hints of chocolate and nuts. Very dark in color, I first expected it to be a lot heavier but it is in fact very light compared to many of the other dark beers I have had. My only real complaint is it is a bit too carbonated. (next time I have one in my hand I'll come back and update as I sip to be more precise)"

"A solid porter! Deep, rich dark brown/black color with a nice tall beige head. Beutiful in a glass - smooth to drink. Chocolate, malt and floral notes make for a refreshing experience."

"I like Samuel Smith's beers a lot. The taddy porter was no different. The rich dark color left a thin head in the mug that laced a little as I drank. The taste was littered with a medley of different flavors. These included floral notes, dark chocolate, caramel, and coffee. Overall a very smooth beer that will not disappoint."

"I really like Sam Smith's beers but they all have a strange, twang to their flavor. I guess it's kind of some kind of signature taste and it's the only part of the beer that I really do no care for. It pours kind of thin for a porter. Head is short lasting. Taste is great except for the aforementioned twang. It is nutty and malty. Finish is tasty."

"This is pretty hoppy and bitter for a porter. After trying some other Samuel Smiths, especially loving the Oatmeal Stouts and loving porters in general, I expected this to be better than it was. Still a very good overall beer, just a tad bitter or off-balanced for my ideal preference. I would never turn this down if anybody offered or would even consider it in a trade. Just don't know if I would go out of my way to spend this kind of money when so many other things out there now."
