The Famous Taddy Porter
History
Porter was the first commercially brewed beer. It was named for the train porters who were its original servers and consumers. Samuel Smith’s Old Brewery, Yorkshire’s oldest, reintroduced authentic porter to the British beer scene in 1979 after an absence of more than 50 years.
Very dark, fairly full in body and packed with flavor. Intense, dry tangy character of roasted barley.
Oysters on the half shell, Rockefeller or Cajun style, clams, mussels, crab cocktail, lobster bisque and other shellfish, smoked mackerel pâté, veal with green peppercorns, porterhouse steak and of course chocolate. Serve at 55 degrees in nonik or tumbler.

"Aroma of yeast and slight hops, with a two-finger head and decent lacing. Full-bodied, with little carbonation. Crisp, earthy malt and slightly bitter hop flavors, with a dry aftertaste. Nice for the style, but I haven't had a porter yet that I've really enjoyed."

"Color is a rich deep brown, almost black - which I like in a porter. Aroma is intriguing - with one sniff I get hints of chocolate, with the next, roast coffee. Flavor is not as rich as I expected, but it is typical of a good porter with strong hoppy overtones, smoky undertones, and a soupcon of coffee. This is a beer to be sipped and savored, not chugged."

"Sometimes Samuel Smiths beers get skunky and this is a reason why I have not tried more of what they have. A buddy brought this over the other night and it was very good and fresh..
Smells of Coffee, wood, chocolate and roasted barley. Pours a dark brown with a good amount of off-white head. Medium body with nice carbonation and a smooth finish. Taste of chocolate, some coffee, wood and a fair amount of sweetness. Nice Porter!"

"This is my current favorite beer so I'm trying not to go nuts over it in my review. This beer doesn't pour a very thick head. I love the smell of this beer it has a distinct aroma with hints of chocolate and nuts. Very dark in color, I first expected it to be a lot heavier but it is in fact very light compared to many of the other dark beers I have had. My only real complaint is it is a bit too carbonated. (next time I have one in my hand I'll come back and update as I sip to be more precise)"

"A solid porter! Deep, rich dark brown/black color with a nice tall beige head. Beutiful in a glass - smooth to drink. Chocolate, malt and floral notes make for a refreshing experience."
