"330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 8%. Golden colour, fizzy and foamy large head. Pleasant fruity aroma and flavour with notes of spices. Relatively light bodied for its strength, the alcohol is well hidden. Nice."

"Aside from the one-thousand-and-one different schwills `round the globe trying to copy BMC (+Heineken/Carlsberg, +Molson/Labatt, +Kirin/Asahi)...., it seems to me one of the most heavily copied/cloned commercial beers out there is Duvel. Just run a simple thesaurus script on the word "Devil", and see just how many hits end up being similar beers to Duvel. For example, Lucifer and Belzebuth immediately spring to mind. This one, with the not-even-subtle namesake of Satan, is surely another trying to cash in on the style- and trend-setting panache of Duvel.
But like it's fellow devilish Duvel-clone namesakes, this has a hard time holding a candle to it's inspiration.
Yes, it has the alcohol, make no bones about that one. Rather "hot" and a bit "burn-y" in the nose, and later in the mouthfeel. Some warmness going down the throat is welcome with a Winter Warmer, or a big Imperial Stout, or what-have-you. But with this sort of beer, the alcohol should be both noticeable, not a'burning all the way down the hatch...
Along those same lines, the flavor of this sort of beer should be fairly dry, with the clean malt (+sugar in the boil) carrying the load. Not, as is the case with this one, rather thick and overly sweet, damn-near cloying. This isn't a nice and easy quaffer in your favorite quiet Belgian cafe, but a rough-and-tumble hardcore drinker for clubbing in an especially loud Bruxelles discothèque, that serves nothing but this, Jupiler, and the latest Mixed-Drink-Of-The-Week fad....
This isn't horrible, per se. But if it wants to to try to emulate Duvel, it best bring the goods, or stay on the porch. For this is one dog that don't hunt, when it comes to Belgian Strong Pale Ales...

"Bottled. A bit hazy golden/orange colour with enormous longlasting white bubbly/foamy head, lacing. Bitter fruitish aroma with spicy and caramelly hints. Also a sting of alcohol. Flavour is sweet caramel with hints of vanilla. It gets a bit bitter and alcoholic in finish, but aftertaste is sweet candy. Hides alcohol pretty well."

[5] Review by Brett from Far from good beer, OK, USA who has tried this beer once. (9/29/2005 10:16:00 PM)
"Sampled from bottle. Pours cloudy gold with a lasting, creamy white head and frothy lacing. Pears, citrus and floral hops dominate the aroma. Flavor is balanced with candi sugar, dark fruit syrup, pepper, banana and tart green apple. Medium-bodied, smooth and well-carbonated. A good beer, but not so much so that I'm compelled to run out and buy it again."
