The colour of Black Irish is a brown so deep that it's almost black. The glass will be almost empty before you'll notice the red highlights. The taste of this full bodied brew evolves as it warms in the glass; shading from dry chocolate and coffee to chocolate and cobnut. The finish is dry and nutty with just the slightest hint of licorice.
Black Irish is brewed from pale ale, crystal, brown and chocolate malts malted in England from the finest Canadian two-row barley; with roast barley in the mash for the dry astringency characteristic of Irish porters and stouts.

"It's an understatement to say that porter is deep black with some beige neck...If coffee and bitternes with some carbonation interest your taste buds, don't hesitate this beer is for you...A very warmful beer easy to love..."

"Bottle: Poured a deep black color porter with a nice foamy head with some good retention and some lacing. Aroma of deep chocolate with a nice creamy texture. Taste is also dominated by some nice black chocolate notes with some light roasted notes. Body has a nice creamy texture with some good carbonation but maybe a tad too thin for the style. Remind me of some London porter out there. "

"Got this one in a stubby at the LCBO. I was quite pumped to try another one of Perry's fine brews. Awwww... the beautiful coffee smell. Pours a dark black colour with a beige head and decent lacing. Watery mouthfeel with a little stick to it. Good roasted malt taste with that little coffee flavour. Not too heavy though, which makes this a very easy drinking porter. Glad I could try this limited bottled brew."

"On tap 2006 version:
Tapped as nearly perfect as I have ever seen: a deep dark black with ruby highlights at the stem of the glass...tight, sticky mocha colored meringue cap lasts a while and paints the glass with lace.
Aroma is as close to heaven as possible without making the ultimate sacrifice: rich aroma of decadent bitter cocoa and coffee rides over a grassy carrier.
Medium-light body, sturdy patent malt spine, silken mouth feel, satisfying roasty-java character.
Starts with a massive chew of roasted malt that instantly bursts into a dark chocolate and coffee detonation, mid way you get a more complex mix of dark dried fruit and wet hay dancing with the cocoa-java tastes....finishes long with the increased bittering of hop and burnt grain husk astringency in awsome balance with the roasted malt.
Near perfect balance where the natural astringency of this London styled porter is kept in check.
Quite possibly my favorite porter, certainly fresher tasting than the fuller’s I get."
