Very robust, with hints of raisins and licorice, this vintage dated black ale will improve in the cellar for several years.

"Scavanged from a trade, this sample has been racked for 3 years:
Poured jet black with a creamy mocha colored cap that lasts and laces well. Roch chocolate and wet hay aroma. Thick silky mouth feel. Flavour is decadent dark roasted cocoa and figs with a wonderful pervasive resinous hop bittering in the back. Long rich wet finish with lingering cocoa after tastes. BLOODY MARVELOUS STUFF!"

"courtesy of Oakes; 2005 vintage - pours an impressive pitch black colour under a big creamy, brown tainted head; roasted mocha aroma and some metallic notes; the palate begins thick and oily but finishes surprisingly thin; increasing bitterness in the aftertaste where tones of milk coffee barely hide more metallic notes - not fully convincing"

"Poured an opaque black color with a small, tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of nuts, roast malt, chocolate, smoked and dried fruits. Taste began smokey, but yielded sour cherries, faint chocolate, roast, but also acidic and thin."

"Perry strikes again. As per usual. First bottle courtesy of Doug Shoemaker from Tronto. Since then, I have had this a few times, and have half a case now. Opaque black pour, with a thin mocha ring that sits atop. Superb aromas of anise and roasted espresso beans. Dark rum, and plums. Sweet coffee bean flavours, accompanied by dark chocolate, licorice, rum, and bitters. Oily, silky, warming, boozey, complex. Silky smooth finish, with great impy lingering attributes! Perry, well done!"

"A great thanks and congrads to Perry for a beer extremely well done. I can't overstate how well crafted this beer is. Poured the darkest of black I ever remember seeing, the little head which formed was a deep, dark rustic colour. Very well carbonated and immensely smooth. Flavours are all present and finely blended. Alcohol concealed beyond recognition. Texture is immaculate. This beer has found equilibrium. Near flawless and extremely enjoyable. I intended to age these, but there is no need and furthermore, I doubt I'll have the discipline. Excellence, simply excellent. "
