In 1996, we created Harvest Ale, America’s first fresh hop ale. Fresh hops are richer in natural hop resins producing unmatched aromatics and layers of spicy-sweet notes that hop fanatics like us dream of all year.
This year, we harvested and brewed with 8,000 lbs. of fresh hops in a single day’s time. It sounds insane because it is. Then we did it again. But when you taste this year’s Harvest Ale, we think you’ll agree it was well worth it.
Harvest Ale is brewed using only fresh-picked, “wet” hops. Brewing with fresh, undried hops preserves more natural hop resins and aromatic oils, producing layers of hop notes rarely experienced.

"This is a truly wonderful ale. Delicious. Light and crisp with a load of spicy bite. The nose is of rich piney hops, and it pours like an IPA; auburn with a frothy white head. The mouth feel is not as thick as I would have expected for an IPA (it's like a IPA light). The taste lacks a little depth (my only complaint about this beer), but it allows two or three different hop varieties to manifest themselves. This is the true character of this beer. The more I drink it, the more I appreciate it. Overall, a light ale with many hop overtones and a load of hop finish. Did I say hops?"

"Pours out in a hazy amber colour topped with a rich and long-lasting white foam. Rich and really resinous hop aroma with notes of flowers and guava fruit. Medium-bodied with strong notes of resin and flowers, hints of grass and Seville oranges. Clean mouthfeel, bordering to streamlined. Resinous hops in the finish, hints of wet grass and almonds. Certainly not bad but I expected more bittering hops from this one. "

"I tried out the 2007 special 11th edition Fresh Hop Ale tonight. This beer has a head that just doesn't quit with plenty of carbonation. The aroma was mostly malty with subtle hops. The flavor was like a medium hopped amber ale. I thought this was going to be a great beer from the description, but I wasn't too impressed. Not enough hops for me."

"Bottle courtesy of Hogtownharry: Poured a clear medium amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention but no lacing. Aroma consists of bitter hops with some traces of caramel malt. Taste is a mix between some bitter green hops with some notes of caramel malt. Medium body with some average carbonation. This beer is really average on so many levels and it definitely isn’t one of the best harvest hops beers that I have had the chance to try."

"Pour was pale copper with thick lumpy head and great lacing. Aroma was soapy citrus. The flavor was sweet bready malt with a perfect level of citrus and some earthy hop. A full and creamy mouthfeel made this an enormous pleasure to drink. A top notch IPA, to be sure."
