Our schwarzbier (black beer) is a traditional German style lager beer. The use of roasted chocolate malt gives this dark colored, medium bodied beer a wonderful sweet maltiness. This beer was brewed in Sierra Nevada's new 10 barrel pilot brewery.

"On tap at O’brien’s. Pours with a dark brown body topped by a medium thick head with a good amount of lacing. IT’s slightly sweet and malty with a slight roastiness...not much else. Medium bodied and smooth."

"I guess this is my first Sierra Nevada review. Hmmm. I'll have to work on that. Anyway, Schwartzbier had zero in terms of head, but the color was a deep rich thick molasses black. I could not detect any appreciable aromas. On the buds, this Schwartzy had a nice subtle burnt malt flavor that was nice and mild. Tastes of cocoa, and smokey notes, & even a slight detection of peanut butter, were all rolled into this one. Hoppage was low (which suits me just fine) and the finish was semi-watery. I was expecting something excruciatingly hoppy. Thank heavens it's not!
