"When drinking the beer, I really had a hard time thinking it was a Scotch Ale. It had some many classic BSA characters that it's what I thought it was even though I knew better. Lots of dark fruits and brown-sugar like malts dominated both the nose and the palate. The alcohol was expertly masked by the sweetness, so the 8% never reared its head. Several sips lands your palate squarely on the sweet aspect of this beer and for me, it never got old. The flavors rarely stray from the sweet profile, but what it lacks in complexity, it more than makes up for in drinkability. Very enjoyable. "

"Bottled at Monks Café, Stockholm. Pours out in a clear reddish amber colour with a rich lasting tan-coloured foam. Dense and really malty sweet aroma of fudge, sweet licorice, butter, dates and raisins. Full-bodied with a rich sweet and dense flavour of toffee, sweet licorice, brown sugar and blackberries. Full smooth mouthfeel with gentle carbonation. Long warming and malty sweet finish of raisins, butter, fudge, dates and almonds with hints of black pepper."

"Dark amberish brown colour, mediumsized beige thich creamy head. Aroma is caramel, leather, wood some green apples as well as slight alcohol. Flavour is sweet malts, raisins, alcohol, wood slightly "wet-burnt-wood" also. A very wellbalanced and pleasant beer to drink. Need to get more of this one!"

"Heavy carbonation, sticky head sits over tea-like body. Aroma is weak and slightly lemony. The flavor is caramel dominant, molassas and a bit of char. Scuppernongs. The sweetness lacks support from other flavors. Seems unbalanced and odd, but not really old or infected. Not so great of a Scotch ale."

[5] Review by Phil B from Gatineau, Canada who has tried this beer once. (12/5/2005 2:11:53 PM)
"Bottle: Poured a deep hazy amber color ale with a super huge foamy head with excellent retention. Aroma of peaty malt with sweet caramel malt. Taste is quite rich with strong syrupy malt, caramel malts, figs dry raisins and nice subtle funky touch from the yeast. Body is definitely above average with a syrup-like body and alcohol is well hidden."
