"This poured an amber color with a beige head. The aroma contains some cooked veggies, chocolate, and toffee. The flavor has a nutty presence with some coffee, dark chocolate, and spices. Overall a pretty nice beer."

"Best By Cork Date August 2011; Sampled January 2008
A careful pour produces a slightly brown tinged, tan colored, five-finger thick head that exceeds the rim of the glass by about one-finger in height. The beer looks quite black as it sits in my glass, but when held up to the light shows a brilliantly clear, deeply red stained, dark plum color. Quite fruity smelling, with concentrated notes of raisins, figs, prunes and dried berries all easily noticed as is a touch of molasses and rum like dark candi sugar. Complimentary spice notes of clove, a hint of ginger, woody black pepper, allspice and fenugreek. Malt aromatics contribute notes of dusty, concentrated-caramel influenced, crushed grain, toasty malt and an almost dry grain-like maltiness in the finish. A bit of higher alcohols contribute to some slight warming and some ester-derived yeast character contributes aromas of bananas and aromatic-varietal apples. These esters and higher alcohols also contribute notes that smell like a rich, well aged, concentrated-molasses heavy Rum.
Sweet, though not cloying, this contributes to a substantial fruitiness that leans heavily towards the prune side of the spectrum. The finish almost has a slight, rancid fruit character to it, in fact this definitely lingers on in the finish quite a bit and makes me think of infected prune juice or slightly rancid vegetables. This tastes a bit like Dr. Pepper with its yeast derived spice notes and the fruit character. A medium full mouthfeel contributes to a palate clinging character that is ultimately both good and bad (i.e. both the good and bad flavors cling to the palate). Slightly tart, think tamarind or plums, this helps to lighten this beer up just a bit.
At times the off after-taste can be quite overwhelmingly bad, but at others this beer is almost quite palatable. In the end though, the off fruit note is noticed in both the aroma and especially the taste, it make this beer just a little bit too off for my tastes.

"A pretty plain tasting beer, which really doesn't offer much in terms of complexity. Plus the cost is quite high, so that's a bummer as well. The beer pours out a dark brown, nearly black color with a large rocky light tan head. The bubbles are really large on the top and get smaller towards the bottom. It gave me the impression that I just poured some kind of cola soft-drink. Aroma is very sublte. Almost TOO subtle. Light notes of dark fruits and clove. Mouthfeel is decent enough, a higher level of carbonation but that's expected from a Belgian. Flavors are also, very very subtle. Dark fruits, cloves and a touch spicy. Nothing special about this beer."

"This Belgian Ale pours a deep brown color from a 33cl bottle. Large sized white foamy head, with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma is brown sugar, chocolate and spices mainly cinnamon and coriander. A medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, with lots of dark fruit and chocolate flavors. Fairly lively spiciness offset some of the brown sugar and dark fruit sweetness. Nice balance. Good carbonation. All in all a very pleasant sipping beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet and spicy. "
