"Bottle. Poured a clear deep amber colored beer with a two fingers white foamy head that had a mid-sized retention. Great lacing. Intense carbonation. The aroma is roasted grainy malts, caramelized fruits. The flavour is roasted and smoked malts, dried fruits. The palate is very smooth, maybe a bit too watery. This medium bodied beer has a lingering smokey finish. A easy and very nice drinkable Rauchbier."

"Bottle: Poured a clean light brown color ale with a one-inch foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of smoke is not as present as I would have expected. Taste is a mix between a light caramel malt bills with some medium smoke. Average body with some good carbonation. Easily quaffable but not as much character as I would have expected."

"Poured from the bottle a golden amber color, slightly hazy, good carbonation, with a full, rich, off-white head. Sweet smoked wood and fruit nose, but light and fresh. Superb mouthfeel, full, round, smooth. Soft but complex flavors of solid malt and smoked wood (I understand its beechwood, but I would've guessed applewood). Finish is long and well-blended. Lightly sweet, faintly smoky, smooth fruit, light bitterness. Excellent. Delicious.
Tasted again vom Faß at the brewery 10/30/08 during Fränken Bierausflug, Day#4, Brewery#20, Beer#44. Light amber with a thin tan head, ver similar in appearance to the rauchbock. Aroma is slightly smoked malt; medium-bodied; firm malt with balanced hop bitterness. Long, soft, lightly smoked finish. I would rate this lower than I did the bottled version, no doubt because I had just consumed the wonderful Rauchbock."

"Pours gold, nice initial head. Aroma is sweet, woodsy, and plastical. Soft, light mouthfeel. Overall milder than i expected overall and in smoked flavor. It doesnt hit me in the face but has a nice earthy background, rotting pine, caramel malts, a muted sweetness. Biscuit toastiness and some citrus lingers in the aftertaste.... A pleasant experience"

"Amber colour, small white head. Aroma is salts, smokey and leathery. Flavour is leather, smoke and malts. Like a Schlenkerla on water and animal fur. Still not totally bad. "
