The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the St. Bernardus beers. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content. A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine aroma, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour.

"A nicely crafted quad, not as flavorful as Rochefort 10 but similar in flavor. The yeasty taste is very similar to what Unibroue seems to use in their La Fin Du Monde, Maudite and Blanche De Chambley. Sort of like taking a Rochefort 10 and adding a little Unibroue to it. Nice, and not extremely funky like some of the more adventurous quads.
Because this is the same price for me as a Rochefort 10, I'll buy Rochefort over this every time. But this is no sloucher. Clearly a heavyweight in the world of quads, and a must-try for every beer lover!"

"The beer pours great with a nice deep brown, mahogany color to it that passes almost no light, a nice two finger brown head, and some lacing on the glass. The beer smells great with a nice blend of raisins, red plum, and a hint of brown sugar. The taste is outstanding with a solid flavor of raisins and dark fruit with a somewhat boozy finish but blends well together. The mouthfeel is outstanding as the beer is perfectly carbonated and somewhat sweet and dry. Overall, an outstanding quad...

"Had this on tap at BierCraft in Vancouver. Highly recommended, especially if you dig Belgian beer. Darker than I was expecting, but did not diasappoint. It pretty much ruined my taste buds for the night. Deep, complex flavours, so much head, and about as beautifully balanced as any beer on the planet. I am completely astounded that the Belgians have perfected a way to make 10+% beer taste to smooth. Amazin'"

"Drinking this beer on May 21 2011, at the Rapture! I will goto heaven and the rest will be abondoned to the planet. All hail Family Radio! Nothing makes more sense than Pro-Life and the death penalty... cause everyone has the right to live! No more propoganda I guess, not that it matters, no one will be around to read this right....
Anyways. Best before date on bottle is 28 Feb 2011. Drinking May 21 2011, if you didn't gather. Smell is a bit soapy, and it smells thin, if that makes any sense. In the mouth it hasnt lost any body, its still fills the orfice known as my mouth, and does a good job of it. A bit sweet, strong malts, over ripe plums, thick brown sweet bread, some cinnamon bun with no icing (stale), a touch of sourdough like yeast. It is more fruity and less spicy than some comparable belgians, but I haven't had it young yet, so I don't know how much to credit age on that.
The hop profile is lovely, a off dry biting bitterness, some rielsing type floral notes, a touch of apple, a touch of smoky cedar (like a sauna that isnt sweaty and gross). The first sip I though was mediocre, but it improves each time it comes to my lips. It is really opening up and quickly becoming the beer that is raved about. Cherries show up with warmth, so does spicy biscuits, white pepper and croustinis. Really yum."

"Another outstanding beer from the European mainland, but again, falls short of the Westvleteren 12 in terms of aroma and flavour, but still a must have."
