"Sampled 9/11/2009. The European Strong Lager pours a very dark black color from a 12 oz bottle. Small to medium sized beige foamy head. The aroma is roasty malts, coffee and some chocolate. A medium to full bodied black lager. The malts are caramel, chocolate, coffee and some dark fruits. The hops are grapefruity and floral. Nice carbonation. Really hides the alcohol well. There is a lot of chocolate and coffee flavors here, with just a touch of sweetness at the finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. "

"Dry malty and hopped nose, some pine and alcohol. Some tan head and looks like Diet Pepsi in the glass, Cola colored and Black a hint of reddish. Good carbonation, a little fizzy(joke) but it works with the beer. Medium body and a crisp dry finish. the flavor is fantastic and quite yummy. I really wish this beer was release close to winter months because it is a good fall sipper. Hoppy and malty but in order to get a good pilsner feel and taste a big swig is needed. Earthy, straw, flat citrus and and woody pine. I am digging is but way to expensive! "

"what a fun unique brew this is. it actually manages to share some qualities with Stone's 13th (big malt, fresh hops) while also being significanylt different. sweet and intensely hoppy at the same time, dark and deep. the only difference in scoring between the 13th and this is an evr so slight spice character that isn't bad, but takes away from the overall fresh hop onslaught just a touch...but it also has a unique dry roasted finish that the 13th and other similarly hoppy beers do not. This is a great beer and worth every penny if you can find it!"
