Due to the brew's intense character, high alcohol level, massive viscosity and bottle conditioning, it can easily be cellared for at least a year or more. Koch suggests that collectors open a bottle from their cellars every six months or so to experience the various stages of the brew's maturation over time. "The very best way to enjoy archives of the Stone Imperial Russian Stout is to taste various years of the brew side by side."

"I happened upon the ocassion to try this beer a few weeks when a friend brought me back one from the USA. The beer is a black beer with a thin tan head. It is thicker than most beer as well. It just didn't sit well with me however. It was sticky in the mouth and very bitter to taste. I did not enjoy this beer at all."

"Black as coal. Complex aroma with loads of licorice, some coffee, and a surprising hint of red berries. Thick adn salty mouthfeel, loads of chewy malts. Huge, but tdoesn't get overpowering or cloying. Finishes malt sweet with good bitterness."

"The First things that comes to mind with this beer is how beautifully balanced it was. Pours dark b lack with a nice long lasting tan head. Aroma was roasty and strong with sweet barley. A full bodied stout but never too much to handle and left you wanting more. Flavor was full of chocolate and roasty malt notes that were amazingly smooth… Fantastic!!"

"Bottle. Poured a blackish-brown color with a light brown head. Good lacing. Aroma was sweet with a hint a vanilla, coffee, and roasted malt that usually come with this style. Mouthfeel is really nice. Flavor is unreal. Malty, chocolate, a touch of coffee...this is what an imperial stout should taste like. This is a very good beer that maybe someday I can get locally. I wish at least."

"Poured a coal black super full nectar with a full, milk chocolate froth. Sweet, malty aroma. Not too sweet. Flavors of cocoa, coffee, smoked peat, with vanilla on the finish. Drink it ice cold. It’s so well ballanced I wanted another bottle. I can’t usually drink this all night long but I have to say, I really think I could with this one. Alcohol is dangerously well hidden. Highly recommended."
