This ale has been brewed to celebrate the birth of our third child, a girl called Martha. On 27th March 2002, weighing in at 7 3/4lb at 6.30am. I brewed this ale as a tonic for my wife who likes a drop of the dark stuff when feeding Martha in the evening.

"Bottle conditioned. Very dark, opaque brown with a slim beige head. Aroma has dark roast malts, caramel and dark fruit. Flavours are coffee, chocolate, some smoke and sweet roasted malts. Smooth and full bodied. I do like a good strong mild."

"Bottle, RBESG 2005 Grand Tasting. Dark reddish brown colour. Fine malty aroma with strong notes of oak and woodwork. Hints of tar. Oaky flavour with notes of tar and smoke. Low bitterness, fairly dry. A good strong mild!"
