"A customer at my work gave me this, so cheers to him! Pours the thickest oily sludgey black colour you've ever seen. Thick thick muddy soupy black, is the best way i can describe it. Aroma is strong of alcohol right away, smoke, black licorice, oak and coffee grounds. Taste is crazy, almost chewy. I shared this with several different people and we all had different reactiosn to it. But i loved it. TAste is of wood, bbq, toffee and coffee. NIce beer. "

"2007 vintage. Pours thick and black, with almost no head. Slight thin whisps of dark, dark tan foam hang around, more can be roused with a gentle swirl, but they don't stick around for long. Interesting aroma of sweet coffee, molasses, figs, milk chocolate and sweet rum. Flavor starts with a massive attack of burnt coffee, molasses and dark chocolate. Becomes very vinuous, lots of fig and raisin character mingling with molasses, rum, and some roasted bitterness. Impossibly thick mouthfeel, the coffee and roast does a decent job of preventing the beer from becoming cloying. Just a monster of an imperial stout; it might benefit from a little restraint, as the sweetness and alcohol can be a bit unforgiving in a 22 ounce format. "

"thanks eagle. After waiting and waiting for this one, what a let down. 07 Poured a dark brown with good head. Aroma was dark fruits pine lacking enough malty and no coffee. Flavor was much the same although the malts were there, even a little sour. Top beers not this one."

"2007 version thanks to eaglefan538. Dark pour with little head and lacing. Moderate vinous aroma. Overpowering flavor of sweet dark fruit and raisins. Bordering on sickly sweet, with no strong hop presence to balance. This beer is so ridiculously overrated...I could name a dozen imperial stouts off the top of my head significantly better than this. Disappointment doesn't begin to describe. I don't get it."

"Bottled (2006 vintage. Deep ambery colour (almost black) with small brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some chocolate, dark dry fruit, coffee and burnt wet wood. Flavour is dark fruits, alcohol, vanilla and some wooden hints also. Really caramellish as it warms up a bit. Pleasant brew. "
