On April 7th, 1933, President Roosevelt signed legislation legalizing beer brewing in the United States. To commemorate 75 years of legalized beer, we re-created a style of beer which was largely wiped out after prohibition – Classic American Pilsner.
American Pilsner was first brewed by German immigrants who combined American grain with German yeast and hops to create pilsners that were flavorful, hoppy, smooth, and refreshing.
We named this beer after Arthur Schmidt (1916-2004), a local German-American. Art was a well-loved Green Bay citizen and Titletown Brewing Company patron and friend. His mug stands in a display case above our main bar and his name appears on his old bar stool.
Today’s American pilsners bear little resemblance their ancestors. Art Schmidt Pilsner is our attempt to give you a taste of what American Pilsner was like in the early 1900’s.
As President Roosevelt said 75 years ago,
"I think this would be a good time for a beer."

"This one poured a clear golden color with a fluffy white head and great lacing. It had a floral aroma with a nice mouthfeel. The flavor was malty with a subtle hop bite."

"If this is what the pilsners used to taste like, I think i would have enjoyed many of them back in the day. Pours a bright, vibrant yellow colour with a large white top. Aroma is of corn, grain and lemon peel. Mouthfeel is full and slightly creamy with an inital corn taste, but it quickly mellows into in a comfortable soothing firm malted texture. Strong abv, something like 8%- and alcohol taste is evident, but balanced. Spalt hops evident in the finish."
