"Very nice bottle pour of hazy dark red with very little head and thus no retention. The smell is of vanilla, figs, and alcohol. Taste is of sweet caramel, wheat bread crust, raisins, dates, and a tinge of alcohol. Mouthfeel is very smooth. I'd love to have this on draft - it's a very good beer."

"This was a pretty good beer. Pours a dark chestnut color. Goes down super smooth. Tastes of chewy caramel, cola-like. roasted/smoky malt flavor. Finishes very clean, with very little alcohol flavor."

"I've always seen the Troegs Troegenator on the shelf at the Wine Corridor in Laurel, MD, but never really tried it. I'm not sure why as I do like most of Troegs products. Anyways, I've been on a huge doppelbock kick lately and figured the Troegenator could fix my hankerin....so I picked some up. I'm glad I did.
I must say this is very interesting beer. This is a clear, dark brown brew with some reddish highlights to it. The head starts off with an off-white color, but quickly dissolves away within seconds of being poured. The aroma is of sweet toffee or maybe even brown sugar. It smells really good.
The taste area is where things went very unexpected. My first impression of the flavor was that it tasted like grilled sweet teriyaki steak. Weird right? I know....it was a total shocker. Not that this is a bad thing as I really like a good teriyaki steak, but it was so shocking to the palate to get this taste out of a beer. As I continued to drink it, I was able to pick up on some other flavors such as toffee, yeasty bread, and sweet malts. The mouthfeel was that of a medium bodied beer. There was a moderate level of carbonation to it leaving a little tingle on the tongue.
Overall, this was a strange find. In the doppelbock category I definitely prefer the Ayinger Celebrator. But considering the reasonable price tag, this is an adequate substitute. I could defintiely see myself drinking this with an Oriental meal such as sushi or teriyaki steak."

"An orange-amber beer with a lazing orange head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel and lesser notes of alcohol. The flavor is also malty with strong caramel notes - and lots of sweetness - almost like caramel ice cream topping, but it also has faint notes of hops and flowers."
