The new masterpiece from the Val-Dieu brewery. A very complex and full-bodied beer with a long aftertaste. The brewmaster advices to cellar the beer for a year for it to unfold its full potential.

"Bottle: Poured a clear deep brown color ale with a full foamy head with good retention and great lacing. Aroma consists of sweet malt with some candi sugar and some dry fruit characteristics. Taste is also a well balance mix between rich Belgian malt with notes of candi sugar and some dry fruits such as raisins and plums. Full body with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well done and some thing that I would have on a regular basis."

" Sampled on draught: Pours a deep mahogany colour with a small off white head. Rich, bready with notes of spice and berry fruits. Aroma is pleasent, with raisins, toast, maple syrup and apple cider notes. As I mentioned, it is a rich complex brew, but still clean on the palate."

"Dark amber colour with mediumsized white head. Aroma is licorace, yeast and malts along with alcohol. Flavour is dominated by plum, yeast and toffee. Alcohol and malty hints are in background. Very wellbalanced beer and great palate. "

"Poured a nice murky brown color with some sedimenties that came out at the end of the pour. The head was nice, yet only respectable within the style, nothing outstanding. Lacing was good. The aroma was gentle, soft, nice meld of dark fruits, light yeast, some breadiness, and a candi sugar type sweetness. The flavor was ever so smooth, nice dark and light fruit activity (plums, cherries, yum), light cocoa, gentle spicing, all finishing with a touch of yeasty bready bitterness to finish pretty clean. Mouthfeel was lightly carbonated and gentle and smooth."

"750ml bottle, with 09/08 on the cork.
Pours a dark brown that's nearly black, with crimson highlights. The head peaks at about one finger, and fades very slowly to a thick cap that remains throughout the entire beer. Lacing is a thick sheet, almost completely covering the inside of the glass.
Smell; lots of dark fruits with dates, plums and a little bit of some figs. Some bready malts are present along with candied sugar and a little bit of vanilla.
Taste; the fruits are just as prevalent in the flavor as they were in the aroma. Plums, figs and dates are all there as well as a touch of cherries. The candied sugar adds a nice, but not cloying sweetnees, and the yeasts add a bit of a dying chalkiness. A peppery spiciness mixes very nicely with a bit of an alcohol bite in the finish.
Mouthfell/Drinkability; the mouthfeel is full bodied, with a nice smooth carbonation, and the drinkability would fantastic if the alcohol was not so high."
