"My least favourite of the Westvleteren brews, sadly retired now, notes are from a September 1995 tasting at the market across from abbey
Aroma: The aroma is typical Belgian ale aroma with a combination of spices, malt, and yeast all hitting your nose in an ongoing assault
Appearance: The beer poured a reddish brown with a generous head that lingered througout the experience.
Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is medium-bodied, mild carbonation...and smooth.
Flavour: This is one Belgian Ale that is full of flavour, yet does not live up to the standards of its siblings. There is a combination of yeast, plums, and malts..........and it all goes down sweet
Overall: An excellent Belgian Ale, but if you insist on thinking of Westvleteren while drinking it, you may be disaapointed. Sadly, there are only a few of these left in existence, so if you need to cross it off your list, visit Kulminator's in Antwerpen and ask Leen for a bottle!

"Dark rubyish brown colour with mediumsized beigeish brown head. Leaves longlasting lace. Aroma is bready, plummy, raisiny and a lot of fudge and caramel. Full of most everything. Flavour is pretty much the same. This beer has aged very well!"

"[1991] Poured a hazy reddish, chestnut brown color with a thin, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, nuts, oxidized sherry, more dried fruits, and a small amount of alcohol. Taste of more nuts, with dried fruits, caramel malts, and a yeasty, dry finish. Medium to low carbonation."

[4] Review by ante from Stockholm, Sweden who has tried this beer once. (5/25/2006 1:45:08 PM)
"(Vintage 1996, sampled at Akkurat, Stockholm, Sweden) Clear dark amber/red colour. Thick, low, creamy longlasting head. Wonderfull flavour of flowers, cherries, dark bread and cardammon. Flavour of spices, port, walnut, flowers, dried plums...sweet plums. Long well-balanced, slightly spicy and fruity aftertaste.Hints of burnt white bread. A piece of art."
