"330 ml bottle, bought at Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 8%. Cloudy dark brown colour, huge and lasting beige head. Aroma of wood, dark fruits and spices, hints of leather. Outstanding flavour with oaky and vinous notes, also notes of dark candi sugar and dark dried fruits. Fairly sweet, moderate hops in the finish. Expensive, but worth it."

"12 oz. bottle (courtesy of Brabander, who has been so generous to so MANY of us) into a chalice. Pours a dark brown with a reddish tint where light penetrates. Head was massive on the pour but settled to a skim of frothy, eggshell white. Nose is, at first bombarded by sweetness with raisins, cherries, toffee, bready yeast, brown sugar, molasses. Taste is rum, raisins, grape, caramel. Tartness comes in and the finish is a complex interplay - sweet, sour, dry. There is a nice alcohol warming as well. This beer is highly carbonated at the start but calms as it warms. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy and almost chewy, coating the tongue but very pleasantly. I am not a huge fan of Dubbels, but this truly is an exemplary beer. If you can get it, you must."

"Shared by a very generous friend who received this via trade. Mottled brown body producing an enormous head that collapses over time. A thick coat of lacing and hazy body create for a great looking glass of beer. Unique aroma that contains some of the common fruity sweetness within this style, but there's also this inviting upfront scent of buttered cabbage and celery...I know it doesn't sound appealing but it was very nice when jumbled together with the caramel, anise, and licorice. Full bodied with a comforting warmth, drank fairly easy with a smooth finish. Dark fruits, a hint of clove, cooked veggies, molasses and many more discreet underlying flavors. An odd yet wonderful blend."

"I often wonder how beers like Westy 8 would do in a blind tasting. I’m not saying that everyone’s opinion is wrong (that would be stupid obviously). But....I dunno. I just had this about 6 hrs ago, looking at my notes and it was just an okay beer. Sacrilege? Yeah, perhaps. But here it goes.
The beer pours out a cola colored dark brown with a off-white/light tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, some light bubblegum kinda of fruityness, a bit of wet paper too. Flavor had some dark fruits, a bit of earth, more wet paper, some alcohol...I dunno. Nothing extraordinary at all. Good? Yeah, I suppose. But nothing I can’t go out and find much cheaper and better. "I'm not for certain, but I may have enjoyed this more then the 12. Bright mahogany but something deep about it. Ruby red more like it. Big beige head. On the nose, some apples, cinnamon and a little smoke. Creamy, frothy and with really attractive lacing on the glass. I couldn't get over that. Taste was very generous with caramel and toast, a little biscuity character on the finish. Overall one of the best Belgian Strong Ales I've had in a long time. Thanks John!"
