"I often wonder how beers like Westy 8 would do in a blind tasting. I’m not saying that everyone’s opinion is wrong (that would be stupid obviously). But....I dunno. I just had this about 6 hrs ago, looking at my notes and it was just an okay beer. Sacrilege? Yeah, perhaps. But here it goes.
The beer pours out a cola colored dark brown with a off-white/light tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, some light bubblegum kinda of fruityness, a bit of wet paper too. Flavor had some dark fruits, a bit of earth, more wet paper, some alcohol...I dunno. Nothing extraordinary at all. Good? Yeah, I suppose. But nothing I can’t go out and find much cheaper and better. "I'm not for certain, but I may have enjoyed this more then the 12. Bright mahogany but something deep about it. Ruby red more like it. Big beige head. On the nose, some apples, cinnamon and a little smoke. Creamy, frothy and with really attractive lacing on the glass. I couldn't get over that. Taste was very generous with caramel and toast, a little biscuity character on the finish. Overall one of the best Belgian Strong Ales I've had in a long time. Thanks John!"

"Thanks to Pfoxyjohn and his generosity, I have found my new favorite beer. This treasure poured a slightly cloudy copper color with a thick beige head with great retention. The beer boasted aromas of citrus with some malty/grassy notes. The body had a thick creamy texture. There were noticeable sweet fruity esters on the palate with some caramel and plum nuances. I detected hints of vanilla and pecans on the finish as well as some lees notes. The beer had impeccable lacing and very little noticeable alcohol present. What a great brew!"

"A bit of a let down on this one, there just wasnt much going on. Aroma and flavor were of some dark fruit, and malts. A dark body with a thin cap and not much lace. The aftertaste was pleasant, it was smooth and easy to drink, and a decent enough beer, but it didnt live up to the billing in my eyes. "

"A dark ruby colour with a light brown medium collar on top. Has a slight yeasty aroma and tastes yeasty, dry, slight bitter and a bit sweet. Overall it could be compared to the taste and mouthfeel of sherry (the drink) 'though fruitier and full. The aftertaste is likewise."
