Bottle: Poured a golden color lager with a medium head that disappeared a tad too quickly. Aroma of malt with some very subtle sweet floral notes. Taste is quite bland with some average sweet malt and no hops that are easily distinguishable. I can’t believe that this is a pilsner – I would never had guess from drinking this below average beer.

One of a handful of beers that I picked up at the World Of Beer (Clearwater, FL), and sampled in my Tampa hotel room, after a long work day down at MacDill AFB. Perhaps not something that I would have normally experimented with back home. But after running fiber-optic cable up in dusty crawl-spaces all day long, I was looking for something rather simple and clean to wash away all that dust!

Mission accomplished? More-or-less. Mostly more, that is.

The label is kinda weird, with what looks like a Polish/Australian hybrid logo (red/white sheild, with a kangaroo and emu on either side. The only instance of Australia and Poland having much in common that I can think of (besides folks emigrating Down Under) would have been in WWII, when both nations (Poland's troops in exile) fought in North Africa and Italy. But the brewery's web site doesn't get into these sort of trivialities, so I don't know....

But I do know that this beer isn't bad. Does the job it sets out to do, without going much above and beyond "adequate". The smell takes geting used to -- very estery; vinegary? But the flavor and mouthfeel is decent enough. Dry backend, which I kinda like.

Perhaps a little on the simple side of things. It has that classic Polish Lager vibe of the likes of it's sister beer Żywiec, but perhaps a little dumbed down a bit. "Rich and full taste"? Pehaps it was that way when this beer was first brewed in 1872. But modern-day standards? Can do much more, much better.

But overall? Still not a bad drop. Washed away some of the dust from the back of my throat, and was reasonably tasty in the process.

Not something I'd buy again. But not something I'm sorry to have tried.

    Music: Various tunes from Isis.

P.S. An entire review, and not a single Deadwood reference to "E.B." I must be slipping... ;^)

A very average Polish lager, not my favrourite of the bunch but offers similar features. Golden pour, decent enough head. A light layer of straw-like hops. A very typical lager scent which I don't find all that appealing. Taste is crisp, refreshing enough. Wouldn't buy again though.

First beer of the evening at our March tasting. Pour was golden in color, with minimal head. Aroma was metallic (odd from a bottle) and very sulphur. Very mild in taste, so nothing really overwhelming here. Below average beer but still not too bad.

"amazing. i know the eatsern block gets knocked, and the standard bearers are the czehcs, but the polish make a mean brew, and while they all kind of taste the same, it's a good same. i highly recommend a taste of poland night."

2nd of the 10 LCBO east block euro Pilsners. This one is spectacularly clear..light gold-yellow nice rocky white cap that lasts for a while then has moderate lacing. Delicate, mild nose light wisps of sweet malt over herbal hops. "Mild" is all I can find to discribe this beer. It has all the elements of a good Bohemian pils but it is very mild ...not necessarily watery ...just mild. Nice light malts, light hops...pleasant to drink but nothing stands out. This is what Labatt’s "blue" would taste like if it was an all malt commercial pilsner

Pours a light golden-yellow with a white head that leaves lacing and a layer over the brew. The nose is very grassy with traces of malts. The mouthfeel is quite creamy and smooth. The taste is crisp with the sweet malt and then a bite from the hop and its bitterness. Quite refreshing. If you are a pilsner fan, I strongly recommend this one.

EB is a very pleasant brew. It has a nice, light golden shade with a thin head at the top. The flavor, while nothing extra special, was rather smooth and tasty. It went well with the pasta dinner I had.
