Review by aracauna who has visited this location once. (3/28/2006 1:16:06 PM) | "I've known that Dahlonega Brewing Company had started brewing at Caruso's Italian Restaurant in Dahlonega for over a year, but haven't had a chance to visit until recently. Luckily, I was able to make the Gold Rush arts and crafts festival this year and used that as an excuse to stop in and try the beer. I only saw three taps reserved for the house beer and only 2 were currently in use, but the beer was decent. The golden ale was the typical golden ale, although possibly a little sweeter than usual and the Pale Ale seemed to follow the path of the British ESB more than the American Pale Ale. The Pale ale was a solid beer and suggests that the brewer here could make some really interesting beers that I didn't get a chance to try (one of the taps was labeled Belgian Strong Ale, but it was out). The restaurant has good food, mostly being an Italian restaurant, but has recently taken a turn towards bar food, so you've got the standard sit-down Italian restaurant fair, but can have burgers, hot wings and other sandwiches as well. The bar room was slammed on Saturday, but it always is on Gold Rush. I'm guessing it's usually a little less crowded.
Also, in addition to the brewpub beers, they have about 10 other taps to choose from, including a couple of local microbreweries like Terrapin. They had Terrapin Rye P.A. and Big Hoppy Monster on tap during Gold Rush. Definitely worth the stop for a beer if you're traveling through the North Georgia hills on vacation. I'm rating the selection as a 4 because of it's location. Dahlonega is a ways out of metro Atlanta and is a small town supported by tourism. It's much better than one would expect to find in a small town and I rated it accordingly. It wouldn't be so impressive in Atlanta, but Dahlonega is far from being a second Atlanta."
