Traditionally, there are a lot of rules when it comes to brewing great beer. The fact that American craft brewers have broken those rules to produce some of the world’s finest beers is downright heroic. At Goose Island we live and die by hops, so breaking the rules meant pushing the hop limit to the extreme to create this monster Imperial IPA. We took three of our favorite hops, TETTNANG, SIMCOE, and CASCADE, and balanced their spiciness with tons of malt. Them we went back and dumped in MORE HOPS and more malt until this beer was exploding with flavor...strong enough to wake the dead and filled with more bitterness than a woman scorned. This Imperial IPA is absolutely gigantic, you’ll smell the hops from about a yard away. What will surprise you is how incredibly drinkable it is. Pair it up with the saltiest blue cheese you can find, and go nuts.

Rare find on tap at Sickies Garage in Fargo. Golden-amber pour with a thick white head. So far so good but that's when things take a turn for the worse. Very weird aroma--some sort of Italian herb or spice that just doesn't fit for an IPA. Taste is hugely bitter but that same herb/spice is too prominent to make this very enjoyable.

Cloudy vibrant amber colour. Big fresh grassy, citrusy, slightly woody hop nose. Well-rounded flavours, lots of fruity, citrusy hops and clean pale malts. Certainly not one to blow minds, but very well-made.

Golden colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is bigtime hops, caramel and a lot of fruits. Flavour is fruity hops, caramel, toffee and some slight hints of alcohol, all mixed in an excellent balance.

Pours a bright, hazy, orangey amber color with a one finger head that settles slowly to a soapy head that leaves behind sheets of lacing. Smell; wow, this has a very floral piney smell, with lots of citric aromas. Grapefruit and oranges stand out along with some malts, as well as bit of a spicy background. This beer smells great. Taste; the grapefuit and oranges show up first trailed by a bitter pine flavor. The bitterness is nice, and is perfect for this beer. The finish has a good spiciness, and is full of sweet malts. Mouthfeel is medium to slightly full bodied, and way to easy to drink. Another great "reserve" beer from Goose Island.

Bottle courtesy of Monger: Poured a cloudy yellowish/copper color ale with a nice foamy pure white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet floral malt with a nice mix of hops with some citrus notes but nothing overwhelming. Taste is a complex mix between some sweet malt with a nice mix between floral and citrusy hops which provide medium bitterness at the end. Body is above average with some medium carbonation and no alcohol could be detected.

This is a very nice double IPA. It poured a burnt orange color. The flavor was of citric hops. I had it with thai food and it was great. The hops smoothly cleared the heat away.

Bottle. Poured a cloudy orange color with a medium white head. Strong lacing. Aroma of hops with a strong citrus kick. Flavor is hoppy with a hint of pine and an orange aftertaste. Good IIPA, but probably not worth the price.

Yumm....hops. Not as hop loaded as some, this is as much an American Strong Ale as a DIPA. It reminds me quite a bit of DFH 90 Minute IPA, but seems a bit more quenching, somehow. Pours a dark gold with a small stand of eggshell foam. Medium bodied mouthfeel with zero alcohol burn, even the booze flavor is nearly imperceptable. Caramelly, grainy malt, rich hop flavors. Simcoe and Cascade, while evident meld together seemlessly and the Tettenang really elevates it to the next level with a spiciness which marries the hop and grain flavors. Really, quite an accomplishment.

Clear amber that starts off with a bit of chill haze. The sizeable head has enough lasting power to count. The aroma is stingingly hoppy. The piney/sprucey hops have a bit of orange zest in the background and if you sniff too hard, the eyes start to water. The flavor doesn't disappoint. With a moderate cracker malt backed up by plenty of hop flavor and bitterness.

Pour an amber color with okay head lacing was weak at best. Aroma was strong grapefruit. Flavor was the same with some other citrus and floral coming out. Had the pine hops later in the beer. Mouthfeel was moderate to a little dry.
