On Labor Day 2004 John Maier picked up a 300 lb. load of fresh Newport hops at the Annan Hop Farm near Mt. Angel. The hops were picked just before he arrived, and were in the kettle at the brewery in Newport by 4:20 pm. Hop Heaven Ale will be ready in late September and served only on tap at the Rogue Ales Public Houses. These Newport hops are very limited and only 1.5 acres are grown by only one hop grower, John Annan.

Draft at SL. The aroma was piney more than anything else, some caramel type malts underneath. The flavor was first and foremost hops, full bodied presentation of pine and citrus hops, melons and other bitter hoppy fruits. The body was full, the carbonation as expected. This didn't stand out among the other hearty IPAs out there, although it was certainly enjoyable. Thanks, Robert!

A must for anybody who is a hops fanatic! Color is a dark honey-golden brown with a tan head that fairly persists. Aroma is strongly hoppy. Taste is VERY hoppy and strongly bitter, not complex. This is one of the hoppiest beers I have ever sampled. It leaves a lingering hop aftertaste.

Hop Heaven indeed, true to its style this brew pours a bright golden colour with a full white floral head. Full on the palate with vibrant ripe fruit and fresh hop flavors.

This beer poured a golden orange color and was topped off by a fairly thick white head that left pretty nice lace down the glass. The aroma was bitter piney hops without much of anything else really shining through. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, finished dry. The flavor was bitter grassy hops, with some piney and very faint citrus notes as well.

2006 Edition on draught. This beer is really an exploration into fresh harvest wet hopped IPAs. There is almost nothing else to this beer besides the unfamiliar tones and twangs you get from wet hopping from a fresh harvest. Body is a light amber orange, good head and retention. Nose is complex, fresh flowery/floral hop notes, with a touch of some citrus hops and a SLIGHT detection of some malts (caramel and maybe some sweet fruits). Taste is to match, wet hop domination; floral and citrus mostly, a touch of some sweetness but not much. Body is very light and the mouthfeel is a bit sticky. The hops linger... and linger in the palate.

Poured a hazy amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of perfumy, floral hops, citrus fruits, caramel malts, light pine, and toasted dough. Taste of citrus, some tropical fruits, mint leaf, sticky caramel malts, nuts, some wood, grassy hops, and a bitter finish.

Tasted at the 2004 Bistro Hop Fest. Orange gold color. Small white foamy head. Aroma is floral hops and malts. A medium bodied IPA. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are grapefruity, citrusy and piney. Interesting mix. Definitely a beer from Rogue. Nice balance. Smooth taste. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

The slightly cloudy amber body of this brew is topped by a thick head with lots of lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet and fruity with a slight grapefruity hop note. The flavor is slightly sweet and fruity yet bitter and piney. Nice. Medium bodied and dry.
