Rogue Imperial Red

Draws deep amber/red with a thin tan, perhaps, head - laces supremely. Well carbonated for the type - very nice. Sweetly malty and very lightly hoppy. Smooth with occassional hints at the alcohol.

The good- Found it, the bad- it came in a 7 oz bottle, the ugly- 7 oz isn't enough, wished it were in a larger bottle. Very well hopped for a red, complex yet easy to drink. Rich and satisfying a nice blend of citrus hops, caramel malts, dark fruits. Overall a good style and a good beer, wish I had some more.

It pours a dark-brown sort of muddy with orange and red mixed-in. The head is white and burnt-orange with copious lace. An aroma of caramel malts, toffee, light hops, citrus, and mild spices. The mouthfeel is smooth, silky, and rich. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, light grapefruit, oranges, yeast, and spiciness. This is delicious!

This beer pours an orange color with nice head and a lot of lacing around the glass. Aroma of citrus, malts, caramel. Flavor was kind of nutty and malty but very smooth. A good beer.

With such a huge price tag, I expected a lot better (glad I didn't have to pay for it though). Pours a dark amber but the first thing I noticed was the aroma--way too boozy. Taste is similarly one dimensional--I notice plenty of sweet malts, caramel, and earthy hops but the alcohol overpowers all.

not sure what this is based on, but it tastes nothing like a stronger St Rogue Red as i was hoping for. May more malt than hops in this one...toffee up front, and in the aroma with a slightly nutty, slightly bitter finish. another ok-pretty good beer from Rogue that's not worth the ridiculous bottle price. I'd take a Red Rocket or Lagunitas Imperial Red any day over this one...

lots of bitters, but not good ones... what happened here? smells of dirty used bloody nails and dirty rust and old chocolate...is a dark murky colour with low low head .. is this a really shitty beer or a bad bottle? at this point i do not know, goddamn ceramics!

Bottle: Poured a deep hazy copper color ale with a good size foamy head with good retention and great lacing. Aroma consists of big caramel malt notes with some slightly bitter notes also discernable. Taste is also a mix between some big caramel malt with some slightly dry bitter hops at the end. I was expecting a hop bomb since the bottle is relatively fresh but all I got was a big malt bomb (not that this is a bad thing I just wasn’t expecting it). Full body with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well done.

Arrives from the tap with a dark tan, deeply amber stained, one-finger thick head that sits on top of a hazy, red-toned, dark amber colored beer. The aroma has lots of caramelized flavors in it with a mix of concentrated citrus notes thrown into the mix. Sweetened grapefruit and candied orange peel aromas are backed by sugar-coated pine needles and a citrusy spruce note. As the beer warms up a full, toasty, biscuit-like character starts to become much more noticeable.

The taste is quite sweet, though it is heavily caramelized with an almost candy like, definitely toffee character. Viscous feeling, chewy and thick, this is definitely a sipping beer. There is lots of hop character here though the sticky malt character is big enough that the hop character is not the dominant note. Candied grapefruit flavors, lychee, spruce and a pine like edge that couples with a nicely bitter finish. The finish, while bitter, can't quit offset the thick, chewy malt flavors that dominate this beer.

This hides the alcohol well, but has way too much sticky, crystal malt influenced, sweet malt flavors to it. Not bad, but can be a bit much at times.

Well, this seems to be just another container filled with lots of hops an malts with no real direction.
Poured out a nice tan head on the bubbly side, solid very dark amber color prior to sediment dump, ok messy lacing. The aroma is of a generic west coast brew: thick malts of brown sugar, caramel, bread, syrupy citrus hops. This beer could be ANY beer. This whole thing comes across as a weak barley wine. Taste is generic with lots of bread, brown sugar, some caramel, spice and possibly chocolate which is interesting for sure! More than medium bodied, does not come across too thick or syrupy, leaves a decent bitterness. Wow. Is this a generic review or what? Still, it was a very drinkable beer. Save your hard earned money unless you are a review whore. Took me two hours to review this... I'm drunk - thank god for spell check.
