Sprecher Black Bavarian

Comes out of tap warm coffee brown with a fine-bubbled and persistent tan head that leaves generous lacing. Aroma presents notes of roast malt and coffee, not strong but enough to make you go Pavlov’s Dog. Bold flavor sends roast malt, molasses and mocha tones rolling across the palate; these leave a smoky note in their wake. Firm body, good fizz, and a smoky malt finish round out a great schwarzbier.

Dark brown, nearly black, pour with tan head. Fair amount of lace on the glass. Chocolate and malt flavors with a medium sweet taste. Resembles a stout which I liked very much.

A black colored beer with a big frothy textured, light tan head rising above. There's good hang time on the head. It settles into a moderate ringlet. Very light nose. Roasty in taste. A light-medium body. Kinda dull.

Pours out as dark brown as it gets before it's black with a thick head. The aroma is a full nose of malt and molasses. The mouthfeel is about average. The taste is smokey and malty with just a note of hops.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a 1 inch foamy tan head that settles to a film on the top of the beer. Small streaks of lace dot the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, molasses, and burnt sugar aromas. Taste is of dark roasted malt, campfire smoke, and some molasses flavors. A very mild roasty bitterness quickly fades after each sip. A good level of carbonation makes for a crisp and smooth mouthfeel. Overall, this is a really good schwarzbier with some nice roasty qualities. I am glad I picked one of these up.

Strangely this beer is more stouty than their irish stout, it doesn't smell too roasty but it sure tastes roasty and it's black as sin. A really good flavor, not sure that it's true to style of the schwartzbeir but still good.

A beer of the month club entry for may/june 2011. Pours rather dark but not as black as some I have seen. Flavor is nicely roasty and the flavor is somewhere between a porter and an oatmeal stout. Nice but just not in the super premium range.

A decent example of the Schwarzbier style, but still not as good as some of it's German counterparts. Solid black in colour with a creamy tan head. Chocolate and coffee dominate the aroma and the flavour. Solid schwarzbier.

Now that's what I'm talking about! Maybe one of the most flavorful, if not entirely complex, beers that I've had. Chocolately roasted malts, slightly nutty aroma and flavor - deep black in a glass - a true pleasure in every sense of the word. Just damned near orgasmic.

Grabbed a pint of this at dinner @ The Ravenous Pig in Orlando/Winter Park. I'm guessing it was on tap, but could have been poured from bottle. Was really dying to try the Cigar City Brown Ale which showed up on the June beer menu, but this was the replacement for July. Has a dark brown almost black appearance with a lighter tan colored head. Wasn't that much carbonation in this one, which I notice a lot in European style brews. Thought this was a stout at the time, but may be one of my firsts in this style after further review. Has aromas and tastes of chocolate and coffee, slightly hopped. The mouthfeel and texture was a semi-creamy chocolate, but way thinner compared to something like Young's Double Chocolate. I didn't fall in love with this beer, but was definitely way above par. Would try again, but would look for a bottle at a retailer next time around.
