Saranac Scotch Ale

Poured a clear medium amber with malty aroma and taste. Quite warming. This is not my favorite style but I did like this one because it balanced things out well not too strong with the alcohol. I think it makes for a much more enjoyable drink.

Aroma is sweet and malty with some faint smokey and woody overtones as well as some light spiced fruit. Appearance is a rich, dark coper in color when held to the light with a full head on top that is light-tan in color and leaves creamy and smooth lacing on the glass as it sits. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and very complex as well as balanced with a palate that is wet-like but dry on the backend. Flavor is big malty sweetness with some smoked malt coming through as well as some smokiness similar to a rauchbier with an aftertaste that is clean with some slight bitterness with a finish that is dry and peaty and very pleasant for sure and offers some campfire flavor too. Overall, interesting ale here and very tasty and good example of the style.

Pours a nice light brown to amber hue. Head is thin and light. Aroma is of smoke, roasty malts. I can definatly taste smoke, its sweet, bread, hops. Pretty good tasting brew.

a nice try at a scotch ale but it does fall short. i like to see more smokey peat flavor in my scotch ales and this one just comes up short. still good for this upstate NY brewery

This was one enjoyable beer. Let me tell you. They must have been wearing kilts when they made this cause it was one fine scottish ale. They body was solid, the hops were front and center, good beer.

One of the best tasting scotch ales I've ever had. Starts with a great, roasty, malty sweetness then thins out and... bang, you're hit with a coat of malty, buttery sweetness. Unlike some wee heavys it's not too sweet. The color is a nice dark copper, but could use more foam. Could also be a little thicker in mouthfeel to be perfect. The best American made scotch ale that I've tried for sure!
