Fade to Black, that time of year when the light seems to fade away. We drift further into the darkness with each passing day. Volume 2 - Smoked Baltic Porter is inspired by our collaboration with Nørrebro in Denmark. This mischievous cousin to Smoke Jumper has a penchant for pillaging and burning everywhere he goes. Smoked malts redolent of the burned thatched roofs in villages and towns all over Northern Europe impart flavors to warm the spirit of invading hordes far from home. You finally have something in your hand darker than the winter night sky.

I like the label by Nate Dyer after Moxie Sozo's design. Pours clear deep brown, with little head or lace. Aroma is beguilingly complex and dank. 7.8% ABV is barely perceptible. Aftertaste is tangy--possibly a bit of the wheat malt influence. I like it: Good Brew.

I bought this thinking it was the same one I sampled over a year ago. Ah ha, a series, very nice, aromas and flavors of roasted malts being the most noticeable, a nice smokiness that (thankfully) wasn't overwhelming, hints of chocolate and coffee as well. Overall a nice offering from left hand.

Chipped away at a sixer for quite some time. Wonderfully crafted smoked baltic porter. Hearty body with dark fruits and the right amount of smoked malt. Drinkable and approachable.

Very dark pour with a nice thick head. Lots of lacing on my glass and the aroma of smoked meats, coffee stick out. Very drinkable smoked beer here with the flavors of roasted malts, smoked meats, and coffee come through.

Black in appearance with some slight ruby highlights around the bottom. A small, thin, tan head with not much size or retention. Settled to a small ring and just left a scant amount of lacing. More subdued aromas of coffee and espresso than what I have typically found with the Porters I have tried. A roasty, smokey type of aroma adds some complexity. A slight "woody" note that was somewhat pleasant. Chocolate notes are very mild. The taste showed more of the burnt, roasted coffee. Some smoke is present and the chocolate is more up front in the taste. It's not a sweet chocolate, but a dry, dark chocolate. I think the taste is solid. I am enjoying it. Medium to medium/full mouthfeel. Somewhat creamy. Left touches on the palate and it provided a bit of warmth. I rather liked the taste of this beer. Nice touches of smoke and coffee make this an ok example of a "Smoked" Porter. I might pick this up again sometime. Worth a try for sure.

Bottled on 12/21/10: I would have liked to try Volume 1. Aroma is soy sauce. Decent appearance, near black....hardly any head. A bit too smokey for me, but not as much as their Jump Smoke Porter. It is what it is with this one. Wasn't sure if I should age this a bit or not, so wanted to try it fresh. Maybe needs about a year to develop some more flavor.

12oz bottle, bottled on 11/10/10. Pours a dark brown black with a medium cream light brown head that slowly goes to a thin film that laces the glass.

The aroma is subdued - a little charred chocolate and liquid smoke.

The flavor is sweet lactic chocolate with some smoke and a weird plasticky hot (almost peppery) bitterness in the finish. There is some warming alcohol present. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, it's got some weird notes to it, but it kind of grew on me as I drank it.

The Fade to black series from Lefthand should never be stopped. Last years was great and this year is not far behind.

Smells of smoke, coffee and chocolate, wood and a hint of vanilla. Pours jet black with a fantastic tan head the last the whole time. Full body beer here with a smooth and slightly biter finish. Great carbonation. Flavor is a roast bomb with a ton of smoke. Chocolate, coffee, some bitter hops. This is a thicker version of the smoke jump porter in my opinion. Well Done ... Well Done.. no really with all the smoke it is well done.LOL

i can't believe they killed off that superman villain in the boat movie. .. Pours as black as a panther (peanut) .. . good head with medium strength lacing .. . roast, coffee, smoke, and bbq pit gunk in the nose; which follows smoothly into the mouth.. . damn drinkable, and no awareness of the abv! .. would love to try this on tap, but i know i never will .. . I will DEFINITELY be picking up some more before its all gone!! .. .

you mean you're not my real parents!?!?

    -haha!! ya right!!
