Sip serenely as revelations of honey, toffee, chocolate and dark dried fruit delight your senses. Can a beer be holy? you wonder, and Where can I get a grail on-line? Ommegang, our first brew, was inspired by the centuries-old brewing practices of the Belgian Trappist monks. This burgundian brew gives off a variety of aromas, including plum and cinnamon, and packs in flavors such as caramel, toffee, and licorice. At 8.5% abv, it is known to cause spontaneous meditation.

Nice settling beer, ruby with big light brown head. Sweet fruity aroma and likewise sweet taste. Bit too sweet, but that is normal with this style. (Chicago 201510)

Sure is a pretty honey amber cloudy brew. It didn't pour much of a head but what there was was white and disappeared quickly. The taste is good but the ABV is slightly noticeable. Very smooth with no hoppy taste.

Purchased at the Hunger Moutain Coop in Montpeliet, VT. Slightly haze copper colour with a frothy off-white head, average retention, but not much lacing. Big fruit nose with apples, plums, dates and some nuts. Slick mouthfeel with well-hidden alcohol. Loads of dark fruit, fresh wood in the finish. A nice Dubbel that is refreshing, full of fruits that gives you a different twist on the Belgian style. Well done.

LOved the dark coffe head that is produced and last a while. Let it stand for a couple of minutes if you can then, drink, slowly. Awesome weight in the mouth and goes down very smoothy. No alcohol roll off at the end which is very nice. I found my self at the bottom of this brew in no time and was quite dissapointed that i didnt grab another at the store. This is the first time i have tried Ommegang and in going in for the Hennipin next time. Hats off to Ommegang

Nice light brown foam top, dark ruby red color, myriad of aromas including alcohol notes, and dark fruits. Had a great flavor, dark fruits mostly, the alcohol did not show up in the flavor. Great beer, easily see why it so highly rated. Would be a nice bottle to age for a while, and a great after dinner beverage.

A very nice clear red brown dubbel, love the appearance. Everything else was underwhelming for an ommegang beer. Mouthfeel is good but not great, flavor and aroma barely register and there are too many better versions out there.

Magnificent red brown pour into my Orval goblet. Thick tan head that dissipates, with nice lacing that follows down the glass. There are some fruits on the the nose, plum, raisin. Nice- reminds me of Orval but doesn't have the punch or intensity. Good beer although I like the Hennepin better.

One of Ommegang's better offerings. The bottle I am on is 'cave aged' from Oct 05 to Sept 06. 5 years old. Damn good stuff. All the dark fruit, chocolate, toffee, and spice (yup, licorice is in there - anise I believe) you could ask for without cloying or being off balance. Best at 55-60 deg, where the notes really come alive. Easy drinker, no note os an 8.5% abv at all. Gentle and smooth. Something to share with a beerpal (pun intended) and a great introduction into the style.

Pours a frothy brown syrupy ale. I smell brown sugar, bread, raisins and yeast. I am intrigued. Mouthfeel is surprisingly thin. Taste is warming alcohol, fruit and bread. There is a sour saccharin finish. This reminds me of Thelonius Monk only cheaper. Me likey.

This beer poured a deep red with a very thick and aggressive khaki head that at one point stood almost 2 inches tall. The aroma is week with few notes of fruits and chocolate with a malty background. The mouthfeel is a bit lighter than I would expect from an AD, but the taste is rich and chocolately with good sweet caramel and malt notes. A good beer for the price; an ok Belgian Strong Ale.
