A strong (6.5% abv) interpretation of an Irish Red Ale. Part of the batch has been aged in wheat whiskey barrels, and then reintroduced adding subtle wood and vanilla nuances. STRONG PATRICK is based on an Irish Red, an ale style that is lightly hopped, well rounded and balanced, with a pleasant toasted malt character. A celebration of the traditional style just in time for St. Patrick’s Day!

Pours a relatively average size frothy head and has a cloudy amber/coppery appearance with red hues. Aromas of light roasted malts, toasty and earthy. Also notes of breads and mild grains. Malty flavours with some notes of vanilla, caramel and toffee. Being aged in a whisky barrel is fairly evident with the mild whisky flavour in the back. Hops are pretty well in the background as well. Sweet bitterness on the palate. Medium bodied with an astringent, warming mouthfeel. Some bitterness in the aftertaste. Average carbonation. Pretty good stuff.

The beer pours a translucent copper colour with a thing tan ring for a head. Aroma is burnt caramel and weak hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and medium carbonation. The flavour is burnt caramel and not much else.

Thanks for bringing an older Wild Oats Series back. Pours a clean dark amber colour with lots of active, tiny bubble, carbonation. Warm frothy cap goes down slowly with minimal lacing. Aromas are a mix of hop and malts with notes of spices. The same can be found in the taste, with the malt winning the war in the finish, and lingering a bit longer than the spicy hop. Not seeing any sing of the "aged in oak". Not one of my favorite styles anyways. Still, well-brewed overall.

Bottle - pours a hazed reddish-amber with a 1 finger white cap. Aroma is caramely with some toastiness. Flavour has mostly a malt profile caramel sweetness, some pared back hopping, long wet finish with a sweet bite at the end. Well enough made but too sweet for my tastes.
