As a new dad and a graduate of Oregon State University’s Brewing Sciences program, Jason celebrates his inner college student and his new station in life with Big Daddy J. Big Daddy J is a malt liquor that is perfectly balanced so that it’s clean and drinkable smoothness makes that 8% alcohol go down so easily. It’s golden in color and hopped with Hallertau Hersbrucker hops, IBU 28. BDJ redefines what malt liquor can be when brewed by a very talented craft brewer and new dad.

Pours a typical clear yellow with a thick but effervescent white head. Aroma is malty, slightly fruity, crisp but unremarkable. Flavor is more fruity than malty, somewhat sweet but not cloying, not quite bold but better than what the aroma promises. Texture is smooth, but lacking in fizz or viscosity. OK, not so hot, but I am more of a stoutie; a lager lover should give it a fairer shake.

Thick golden yellow, thin ringlet of head, medium carbonation. Aromas and flavors of corn, sweet malts and.. nope thats all. Overall a craft malt liquor?? It a bit better than regular malt liquor, eh.

This was good for what it was. A fun one off. But why make a $4 22 oz Malt Liquor? Not really the craft brewer's market, but whatever. I tried it once. A little corny and grainy in flavor and feel with more malt sweetness and a hint of metal than hops, which were slight and grassy. Not bad, but nothing I need to revisit.
