In ancient Greece, “showing the fig” was a vulgar hand gesture, and Sykophantes means “one who shows the fig”. Earthy and full of dark fruit flavor from hundreds of pounds of figs and dark candy syrup, but with a sourness that cuts the gentle sweetness, Sykophantes is our fall beer. Food pairing The combination of rich, earthy sweetness and sourness in Sykophantes make it a great pairing for rich, spiced foods like a Moroccan tagine or Hungarian goulash. Pours a hazy mahogany with a thick and persistent light tan head reminiscent of a milkshake. Yeasty aroma has a strong overtone of fig. Fruity flavor is almost more like a wine than a beer - can one make wine from figs? Sweet and sour notes play across the palate, with subtle malty grape, and hoppy tones in the background. Texture is firm and smooth, a little tingle, with a strong note of sour fruit. Don’t show the fig - drink it!
