Beau’s Farm Table Series are sessionable beers inspired by tradition and brewed true to a classic style. Dunkel is a malty Bavarian dark lager with a balanced, reserved hop presence. At 5.7%, this traditional German beer is crisp and highly drinkable, with a rich, malt-forward taste. Dunkel is truly the ideal beer for those who love both the roasted characteristics of a dark beer and the clean finish of a lager. HISTORY & STYLE: Among the most appropriately named styles of beer, the term “dunkel” is the German word for “dark.” Dunkel’s history stretches back to the Bavarian Purity Act of 1516, which decreed that brewers use only barley, hops and water in beer-making – clearing a path for the dunkel, which met both these standards and satisfied the palates of the people of Munich. This traditional Bavarian lager rose in prominence, with a legacy that remains to this day. Dunkel is luscious and toasty in flavour, yet with smooth lager crispness. TASTING NOTES: Dunkel pours mahogany with a billowy white foam. The aroma offers mocha and bread crust notes. The flavour features deep malt impressions with hints of chocolate. This medium bodied dark lager has a clean finish. FOOD PAIRINGS: Lollipop chicken legs with tandoori spice and seasoned basmati rice; marinated cheese and olives in spicy citrus oil with crusty bread; banana cream trifle; layers of buttery cookies soaked in coffee syrup, fresh cream and fresh bananas topped with crushed toasted pecans. On tap at Arrow and Loon. Pours a small frothy tan head and has a dark amber/brownish appearance. Average carbonation. Decent sticky lacing. Aromas of dark roasted malts, herbs, a bit toasty. Flavours are mostly the dark roasted malts, hints of chocolate, somewhat sweet. A little bit of vanilla, some toasty malts and earthy hop notes. Slick and oily mouthfeel. Medium body. Good retention. Good stuff!

Release day for Febrewary 2017, week 2 at the Loon. Pours a hazy dark copper-brown colour with a small head and not much lacing. Roasted malt scent with coffee, chocolate malts and fruity notes like berries, dark fruits. Malty flavours with the burnt malt that is smooth. Fruity with a little molasses. The mouthfeel is a little bitter, dry. Quite a nice easy-drinking Dunkel.
