The Russian Imperial Stout style dates all the way back to 17th century England where the English brewmasters were well known for their craftsmanship. So much so that other nations were beginning to demand their products abroad. While IPA was favoured by foreign nationals in India, strong stout was preferred in the frigid Baltic states. Catherine the Great particularly loved to import the stuff for her upscale parties in St Petersburg, Russia giving the biggest and baddest of stouts its name. Some say the dark strong ale appealed to the melancholy of the Russian soul. Not for the feint of heart, this is a juggernaut of a beer. The largest beer we've made to date, it weighs in at 12%. Look for a rich coffee and molasses character. To please ghost of the Russian Czar we aged this beauty in bourbon barrels for 4 months, smoothing it out and adding hints of vanilla, coconut and spice. We hope you like it as much as we do
