It’s melodious name evokes the typical Scottish instrument of a kilt-wearing musician, and brings one back to an old fashioned Scottish pub, where said bagpiper proudly salutes BDT’s 100th brew. This beer is mahogany in colour, topped with a persistent coffee hued head. Its malt and caramel odours expand over a background of grilled hazelnuts. A very subtle peat smell lingers behind. A round, sweet caramel flavour with berry notes is finished with honey toasted sweetness. The comforting alcohol warms the cockles of the heart as the last chill of winter is replaced with the blossoms of spring.

Big 750ml brown bottle from my local Métro store, now written 9% ABV. Pours a deep ruby-amber colour with a creamy beige head that has great retention and thick lacing. Loads of apples for aromas, with some hop taking over after breathing. Notes of cocoa and vanilla. Creamy mouthfeel, heavy all-around. Not sure if my taste buds are dead, but I do not feel any alcohol burn. Smooth as light beer, but with lots more taste. Again, the mix of apples and hop are quite nice and refreshing. Mild roasted malt with hints of nuts, chocolate and caramel. Quite pleasant and goes down too well for such a strong dark beer.
